Seed Production Research Spring Wheat Agronomist

Main Missions and activities:

  • Ensure that seed production research goals are met in the region for both yield and quality through seed production research trial planning and development, grower relations, accurate record keeping and management and agronomy of in season seeding to harvest activities such as: planting, spraying, rogueing, note taking, harvest activities and all other required trial activities

  • Manage interactions with growers ensuring strong relations and a positive image of BASF in completion of activities such as contracting, contract administration, training, grower meetings and providing advice and recommendations consistent with the seed production research strategy

  • Identify and provide recommendations to challenges facing production with the goal of continually improving in all areas – agronomy, location planning, field selection, grower relations, logistics, seed quality management etc.

  • Ensure all activities are carried out in support of health and safety guidelines, QMS, SOP’s, production protocols and other internal and external regulations and practices as well as participation in the development and improvements of all the above processes as required

  • With this grade the individual must be able to manage and lead multiple projects. Continuous interaction with members of their team and other groups is required.

Main internal and external contacts of the role:


  • Report directly to the Seed Production Research NA Lead,USA

  • Member of the NA Hybrid Wheat production community

  • Interacts and ensure alignment with other functions, especially local Breeding, Seed Growers Legal, Stewardship…

Education needed for the role:

Minimum of a diploma(preference of a degree) in Agriculture with specialization in crop science/agronomy or related discipline or 5 years of Seed Production Experience

Experience and capabilities needed for the role:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture preferably specializing in Crop Science or a research related discipline

  • Experience - 5 years - in wheat crop production, seed production and farm equipment knowledge/experience

  • Ability to establish relationships with both internal and external partners such as: seed growers, breeders and industry partners is essential

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to be flexible and modify plans as required in order to minimize impact on data and trials as situations arise

  • Ability to work independently

  • Class 5 Driving License with ability to obtain a Class 1A or Class 3 if required

  • Pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one if requested
