The Software Engineer - COBOL Application position presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a Waterfall/Agile application development team within the risk application team. NEWTON is a Wells Fargo centralized repository of all successfully completed wire payment transactions in which Wells Fargo was involved as the originating bank, the beneficiary bank, or an intermediary bank.

This role will be responsible for enhancements, new code, production support, and working with our Business partners to resolve complex tasks. The development team is global requiring the use of online collaboration tools to efficiently and effectively engage peers. The main technologies we use are COBOL, DB2, CA7, Endevor, TSO, Easyedit, and Filemanager.

Job Duties Include but not limited to the following:

  • Application Design

o Participates in application design by providing feedback and guidance on available technology options to business problems specific to Customers Due Diligence

o Provides high-level estimates for different alternative designs to help guide functional design

  • Construction

o Develops highly complex original code

o Provides technical assistance to less experienced staff

o Verifies program logic by reviewing detailed design prepared by other members of the technical staff and Participating in code walk throughs

  • Deployment

o Ensure any modified or new components are well-documented so that the deployment team can deploy efficiently

  • Other requirements

o Participates in process refinement for the entire software development life cycle

o Assures quality, security, and compliance requirements are met

Preferred Locations(s): 1525 W W T Harris Blvd Charlotte NC & 1100 Corporate Center Drive Raleigh, NC -may consider other Wells Fargo Hubs if talent isn't available in the two address locations.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience

  • 5+ years of Cobol experience

  • 5+ years of DB2 experience

  • 3+ years of experience using one or more of the following Mainframe tools: Abend-AID, File Manager, or IBM debugger

Desired Qualifications:

  • An industry-standard technology certification

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • 1 + years of Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments processing experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of the SWIFT, Intellimatch, Intellitracs, or RFX systems

  • 2+ years of risk and regulatory compliance experience

  • Ability to identify and manage complex issues and negotiate solutions within a geographically dispersed organization
