Airgas Usa LLC Controls Engineer in Radnor, Pennsylvania

An exciting opportunity awaits you. Airgas, an Air Liquide company, the nation's leading single-source supplier of gases, welding and safety products is seeking a Control Systems Engineer reporting to the Airgas Merchant Gases Primary Production Director, Process Automation. The Process Controls Engineer will design, program, and commission control systems. This person will provide operational support to existing control systems in Airgas with multiple platforms configuration. This person will also help to collaborate on SCADA system management, plant network management, control related software product installation, testing and troubleshooting.

Duties:

  • Maintain safety, reliability and regulatory compliance with highest priority

  • Utilize standard function blocks and develop standard logic for PLC/DCS programming

  • Provide control technical support during installation, commissioning and operations

  • *Perform Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing for control systems *

  • Contribute in commissioning and start-up activities in addition to the implementation of the control systems

  • Implement controls systems modifications to comply with global process, Air Liquide Group Standards, equipment and safety standards.

  • Manage and follow software versions and revisions

  • Supervise electrical and instrumentation contractors on site for control systems upgrade

  • Follow Management of Change, PHA and other required processes maintain/update equipment configurations as needed

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Required Qualifications

    o Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or similar engineering field.Commitment to safety

    o Excellent team player

    o Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work across multiple projects and sites

    o Ability to function in a highly decentralized team environment.

    o Ability to understand and manage internal customer expectations

    o Ability to quickly learn new processes and technologies such as air separation plants, CO2 plants, and VSA units and new controls systems technologies.

    o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    o *Proficient or able to quickly learn MS Office products and GSuite (Google) Products *

    o Flexible to support operations with 24/7 availability for problem resolution

    o *This is a hands-on position requiring overnight travel to Airgas operating facilities *

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    o Up to 3 years of operating plants PLC/DCS experience (SIEMENS, Allen Bradley, Delta V, Modicon, Wonderware)

    o Electrical knowledge on instrumentation and control circuits (24V cl/c) and low voltage a/c Experience in specifying control components including PLCs, safety hardware, sensors, relays, valves and positioners.

    o Experience in building, testing, and troubleshooting control panels

    o Experience with communication protocols including HART, Profibus, TCP/IP, and Modbus

    o Ability to analyze data and develop solutions.

    o .Ability to analyze technical problems, evaluate alternatives and identify the optimum solution.

    o Experience in I&E troubleshooting.

    o Working knowledge of ISA symbology, as required for P&IDs and electrical one line diagrams.

  • Physical Qualifications:

    o Walking or standing to a significant degree

    o Exerting or lifting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently

    o Able to work around process equipment, including traversing ladders and stairs

    o Able to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)

    o TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Overnight travel over 40%.
