County of Prince George Fire and EMS Chief in Prince George, Virginia

The Prince George County Department of Fire and EMS is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire and EMS Chief. This position will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the operation of the Fire and EMS employees and volunteers within the coordinated emergency response system. The Fire and EMS Chief plans and organizes the overall delivery of fire suppression, emergency medical services and other emergency services for the County within a coordinated combination Fire and EMS system as provided by State law. The Chief manages emergency planning for all man-made and natural disasters and coordinates disaster and hazardous materials responses.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the department and extensive experience in fire, emergency services and/or emergency medical services,must have eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in Fire and Emergency Medical Services, including a minimum of five (5) years in a leadership position (Fire Captain or above) in Fire and EMS.

Comprehensive knowledge of fire, EMS, emergency management and disaster planning management; extensive knowledge of laws and regulations controlling fire, EMS and emergency management; proven management and administrative skills; ability to lead, direct and manage the activities of volunteer and career personnel; ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with volunteers, career personnel, government officials and the public; ability to prepare technical and informative reports and present complex information to varied audiences; and, ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in emergency situations; knowledge of the physical layout of Prince George County preferred; effective written and oral communications skills are required; computer literacy strongly desired.

Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Must possess certifications for Virginia Certified EMT - Advanced or higher, (intermediate or paramedic certification is preferred), VDFP or ProBoard Fire Officer II or higher, VDFP or ProBoard Fire Instructor II or higher, VDFP Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, VDFP EVOC 3 or higher, NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification is preferred. Work may be required beyond the normal work schedule, including call-back. On call may be necessary to meet the demands of the department and the needs of the citizens.
