The firm's Legal Department is organized by Practice Groups that conform to the organization of the firm's lines of business and corporate staff areas. Each Practice Group has a General Counsel who is the Practice Group Head and who reports to the firm's General Counsel. This structure provides the means for the Legal teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and staff areas and for the lines of business and staff areas to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the Legal teams in a timely manner.
The Commercial Banking (CB) Innovation & Products and Shared Services Legal team is seeking a talented attorney to assist with coverage of data management, privacy and marketing.
The position will be based in Chicago, IL or Plano, TX.
Responsibilities will include:
Assessing proposed uses of data for CB and related businesses, and reviewing applicable laws and contractual restrictions to identify and advise the business on potential risks of such data use
Advising on, drafting and negotiating client and vendor contracts focusing on data use, data sharing and data ownership provisions
Providing legal analysis and other support in connection with privacy/confidentiality incidents
Supporting the CB Marketing and Communications teams by advising on and reviewing external-facing materials, including communications, and social media and marketing campaigns
Developing and updating CB Legal-owned marketing guidance, including job aids and other resources
Participating in and representing CB Legal on cross line of business initiatives on issues involving data and privacy, technology, marketing and standardization of contractual provisions
Monitoring and updating the business on relevant legal and market developments in data, privacy and marketing
Assisting in other special projects as may be assigned from time to time
3-5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department at a large bank, regulator or other financial services company is strongly preferred
Knowledge of the state, federal and international laws related to privacy, data, and marketing and intellectual property is a plus, or related corporate experience with transferable skills/knowledge
Ability to prioritize work, effectively manage many issues at one time, and interact effectively with senior management
Ability to understand the business needs and develop collaborative relationships with internal partners across the supported businesses, and the firm
Reputation for providing valued independent counsel and sound judgment, and effectively navigating unsettled or uncharted legal issues
Strategic and visionary in anticipating legal issues for different businesses and business models, with experience in collaborating on a broad range of business strategies
Effective and efficient problem solver, with strong organizational and project management skills
Self-starter with ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
An up-beat, "can-do" attitude and willingness to meet challenges head-on
Excellent oral and written communications skills
JD or educational equivalent required
Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/ jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction
