Framatome Chemical/Process Engineer in Pickering, Ontario

Framatome is seeking a Chemical/Process Engineer in our Pickering, Canada office. Under minor supervision, responsible for providing technical support and advice in analyzing and evaluating plant or field systems and equipment. Provides resolution to complex technical or engineering-related problems. May work in a variety of technical areas associated with power plant water chemistry and/or process systems. Reviews progress and updates management, as needed.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Ensures effective performance of technical assignments.

Plans and directs the timely execution of technical activities, as assigned.

Ensures projects, initiatives, and processes comply with established policies, objectives and customer standards.

Ensures adherence to government, organization and customer standards and procedures.

Provides technical guidance to others in the identification and resolution of problems.

Works interactively with customers and clients.

Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.

Works on special projects in the field of power plant primary and secondary side systems water chemistry, chemical cleaning and decontamination projects. This includes also project implementation and execution at the customer sites.

Implementation of new processes and design of process modifications

Calculating mass flow balances and heat loads

Preparation of design requirements

Review of equipment specifications and vendor documentation

Collecting customer data required to make process improvements and modifications

Preparation and review of flow diagrams and P&ID’s

Creating / review of purchase requisitions

Utilization of scientific principles related to magnitude, momentum, heat transfer etc

Investigating and troubleshooting process issues

Coordinating work to tight deadlines and within financial budgets

Ensuring that purchased and installed equipment works to its specification and to appropriate capacities

Assessing safety and environmental issues

Liaising with installation / project engineers and specialists from other disciplines (I&C, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil/Structural)

Ensuring safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety legislation.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

Bachelor in chemical engineering/process engineering plus 5-7 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.).

A member of a provincial professional engineering association (e.g. PEO).

Must have experience working in the field, at customer site such as power plants or other process facilities.

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

Experience in Nuclear Power Generation industry.

Knowledge of thermal power plant operation

Experience in chemical decontamination processes and radioactive waste is considered as an asset.

Experience and strong background in power plant chemistry and corrosion are considered an asset

Ability to work in a team as well as perform independently.

Willingness to learning new skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Travel: Up to 50% travel
