Your Role and Responsibilities


IBM Quantum is an industry first initiative to build universal quantum computers for business, engineering and science. This effort includes advancing the entire quantum computing technology stack and exploring applications to make quantum broadly usable and accessible. With a worldwide network of Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, researchers, educators, and enthusiasts, we are committed to driving innovation for our clients in the IBM Q Network and the Qiskit Community.

Your Role and Responsibilities

You will be part of a team whose mission is to advance the state of the art in quantum compilation within the Qiskit framework. As a Software Engineering Researcher, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, global team of developers and researchers in the IBM Quantum Team to bring new capabilities to life. Your work will sit at the intersection of theoretical and experimental quantum computing, and help develop the software stack for the next generation of quantum computers. This position is can be located anywhere in USA

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

.- 3+ years experience programming in Python, Julia or Rust

  • Good familiarity with quantum circuits, circuit optimizers, and quantum algorithms

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

.- Experience conducting independent research in quantum computing

  • Good communication skills

  • Familiarity with basic constraints of quantum hardware modalities, including superconducting and ion trap qubits

  • Experience with collaborative software development (e.g. design docs, code reviews, using prototypes to inform development choices)

  • Prior contributions to open-source software projects
