VMware ESG - Strategic Operations and Program Management Lead - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Role and Responsibility:

The Strategic Operations and Program Management Lead will be a strategic role to build out the ESG Office. This role focuses on operations and program management of VMware’s 2030 Agenda (30x30 Goals) across the enterprise, as well as operational support for the Sustainability, Social Impact and VMware Foundation functions. This role will be accountable to drive the pan-VMware and cross-functional planning, execution, reporting, and operations around VMware’s 2030 ESG strategic goals.

Embedded in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), the ESG Office has cross company reach from engineering to operations, to the field to communications. This role reports directly to VP of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) and will work in close partnership with the ESG Leadership Team, Steering Committee and Executive Sponsors. You will be responsible for driving and defining a combination of operational and strategic initiatives. Success factors for this role include:

  • Establish and manage operational priorities for the newly formed ESG Office

  • Help drive ESG strategic planning (long term) with clear operational focus (short term)

  • Drive cross-functional leadership engagement focused to drive objectives & key results

  • Develop and drive communications approach (internal/external) and change management strategy

  • Ensure stakeholders are kept abreast on industry benchmarks and trends

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Operations

  • Strategic Roadmap: establish priorities translating to an executable roadmap for the ESG strategy & vision.

  • Executive Management: prepare executive presentations, dashboards and talk tracks. Ensure the right visibility, conversations and decision making for aggressive delivery and quick removal of barriers.

  • Operations Planning: develop plans needed to support the ongoing operations of ESG programs and operations (financial, processes, people), aligned with the longer-term strategy and costs.

ESG Portfolio Governance & Management

  • Centralization: establish operational discipline to drive transparency and accountability across 30 long-term goals (VMware’s 30x30).

  • Focus: drive focus on outcomes and key results around the high impact and critical path areas.

  • Risk Management: establish risk identification, management and escalation process.

  • Simplified Tracking: create common consistent standards across 30 programs for ongoing reporting (what we really need to track and measure).

  • Dynamic Materiality: establish mechanism and business review process to review of emerging issues and new initiatives.

Connect the Dots

  • Synergies: understand ‘connected-ness’ around the 30 goals and respective execution plans (where are there synergies, can we simplify governance/execution – e.g., where to partner with HR, R&D, REW, etc.)

  • Architecture: assess where there may be an architecture-led approach (for example, where we might more effectively develop common capabilities across programs such as Data and Analytics for ESG)

Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management

  • Strategic Alignment: ensure cross-functional stakeholders are aligned and committed to broader vision/goals.

  • Execution: establish clear roles & responsibilities, along with realistic time allocations needed for success.

  • Resource Management: assess resource model (availability, risks, budget needs, etc.) and resolve challenges to ensure success.

Communications, Change Management & Adoption

  • Communications: partner with Corporate Communications to develop streamlined comms strategy and approach, tone, and key messaging for internal and external audiences.

  • Integration: establish appropriate change management strategy and approach to integrate ESG into rhythms of the business or establish new processes.

  • Business Outcomes and Measurements: establish clear integration and success metrics with accountable owners and checkpoints.

Reporting & Benchmarking

  • Dashboards: partner with ESG Reporting tea to help design and build out key tracking dashboards.

  • Internal Data Integrity: ensure we have data, tools and processes (aka SOX-like controls) for environment and social measurements and reporting.

  • External Reporting Standards: support ESG Reporting team to build organizational understanding of reporting standards (e.g., external boards/councils), and develop change management methodology to support longer term goals of integrated reporting.

Required Skills:

  • You have a BS/BA degree in Business or Technology-related field (required)

  • You have Program Management certification or equivalent (required)

  • You have experience implementing technical programs and or organizational enablement initiatives in complex, cross-functional, global contexts with 7-10+ years experience.

  • You have an understanding of broad knowledge of VMware’s business and operating model

  • You have a proven track record of effective change management; stakeholder engagement and familiarity with enterprise systems, including PRM, CRM, SFA, and ERP
