VMware Technologist Director - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Palo Alto, California

The combination of the WFH workforce 2.0 along with the continual evolution of applications to cloud native and SaaS have strained organizations at a level never seen before. We are working on addressing the challenges of network and security in an evolving world where security and multi-cloud pressures are at an unprecedented level. The promise of new technologies is high, but security must keep up and be intrinsic. You’ll have a chance to work on cutting edge technologies around DevSecOps, Kubernetes, Docker, Cloud technologies and CI/CD to name a few.

A senior individual contributor in a Technologist Director role will partner closely with the Product Management, Engineering and Sales teams to develop technical requirements, drive strategy and be seen as the leading expert across emerging technologies. This role will also work closely with early customer design partners and be a leader in evangelizing new technologies both internally and externally. To be successful the candidate needs to have a deep understanding of the networking and security market along with DevOps practices, SaaS/Cloud architectures and DNS.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Product Management team on early requirements and customer engagements

  • Work with the sales teams on technical engagements and TOIs

  • Develop solution level collateral

  • Work closely with the engineering team on technical requirements

  • Partner with Product and Technical Marketing teams to develop industry relevance and technical customer awareness

Requirements

  • 15+ Years in the networking and security related field

  • Thoroughly understand the IT networking and security landscape

  • Datacenter automation techniques, including DevOps, CI/CD and scripting languages

  • Expert-level understanding in DNS

  • Operational security experience involving User, SaaS, Cloud or Data Center Security

  • Experience in VMware technologies, including vSphere and ESXi

  • Experience in Kubernetes and Cloud Native architectures

  • Knowledge of AWS or Azure native application development techniques and IaaS

  • Self-motivated, problem solver that can “figure out what to figure out”, without close direction

  • Must be hands on and willing to get the job done regardless of the task

  • Thrive in a start-up like environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in VMware NSX, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud, VMware Carbon Black and VMware Secure State

  • Business sales acumen with excellent customer facing skills and ability to present to customers in field visit/EBC settings

  • Thrive in an environment that requires cross-organizational coordination and issue resolution
