This position will be responsible for providing Design Lead support to customer-funded programs and internal research efforts within our Space & Airborne System (SAS) business unit.
Performs a wide range of CAD design assignments in support of the mechanical engineering organization including the creation of models and/or layout drawings from sketches, notes provided by engineering. This position will support CAD design tasks assuring that the design documentation complies with the program requirements, organization’s processes and industry standards. Prepares accurate drawings and schematics with proper tolerances, dimensions and instructions. Essential functions include:
Able to work with large and complex CAD design initiatives of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight or direction.
Communicates within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes and approaches.
Provide technical oversight to more junior CAD designers
Mentor CAD designer in drafting best practices, tolerancing and standards.
Provide CAD support (PTC Creo) throughout the product development process
Generate and/or modify product’s models, drawings and documentation
Prepare and incorporate engineering change orders
Input data and manage hardware structures in a Product Data Management tool
Identifies problems/issues in CAD design/drawings and provide corrective actions.
Compliance with command media & standard
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
4+ years experience with 3D CAD tools, specifically PTC Creo Parametric.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Knowledge of applicable government and industry standards
Strong understanding of the ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.100 (Engineering Drawing Practices), and its application techniques.
Active TS/SCI security clearance is highly desired
Strong mechanical aptitude and general understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques.
Previous experience in supporting the design of ground structures, mechanisms, electronics packaging, and/or composite structures
