Senior LIS Applications Specialist – Laboratory – Orlando
Florida Hospital seeks to hire a Senior LIS Applications Specialist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

The LIS Applications Specialist, Sr. performs Information Systems processes and procedures in assigned areas. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment under minimum degree of direct supervision. Work customarily involves Information Systems applications, which generally requires a high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in both the application and laboratory processes. Oversees, assigns and performs selected aspects of laboratory information systems processes, such as system monitoring, troubleshooting, quality control processes, performance improvement activities, training of staff, problem solving for customers and staff, department equipment or computer maintenance and upgrades, coordinating with hospital system teams and implementing various hardware and software installations and upgrades, developing ad hoc reports, and/or writing/reviewing procedures. Develops formal and informal education/training programs, activities and materials in an effort to improve standards and performance expectations. On-call hours may be required. Works with FH Laboratory System Teams to make group decisions in areas where systematic approaches are necessary. Assists department manager with meeting goals in all Extending Excellence areas: Team, Service, Clinical, Market and Finance. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
Technical skills and aptitudes in Information Systems-related aspects of laboratory testing and processes
Ability to read text and numbers in English, and comprehend, measure, calculate, reason, match and problem solve.
Mature, independent professional judgment with minimal supervision and the ability to handle confidential information within Florida Hospital guidelines and applicable regulations.
Ability to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations and handle multiple priorities and projects.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in written form with persons of varied backgrounds in a respectful and professional manner
Ability to build and maintain effective productive teams and appropriate peer relationships to facilitate organizational objectives.
High degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in computer-related applications or functions and the related laboratory procedures.
Ability to accurately learn, validate, implement, train others, and apply new computer-related applications and programs.
Creative, self-directed, with initiative to develop and implement new programs
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, healthcare-related field, or Information Technology, and
Three years analytical, technical experience in Clinical or Anatomic Laboratory setting, Laboratory Information Systems or IT healthcare field, specifically in systems applications and programs
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Licensed by State of Florida at Clinical Laboratory Technologist level or higher in any specialty (ClinicalChemistry, Hematology, Serology/Immunology, Microbiology, Immunohematology/Blood Banking,Molecular Pathology, Histology, or Cytology) (Preferred)
National certification as a Laboratory Professional or equivalent such as:Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (ASCP, AMT, ABHI, AAB, ABB, ABCC) Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, and/or Cytotechnologist (ASCP) (Preferred)

Provides leadership and mentoring to testing and support staff and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate or requested.
Manages, designs, develops and/or participates on system projects for all Information System related activities as required by the FH Laboratory system and FH Management Information system (MIS).
Oversees, assigns and performs selected on-going tasks related to daily performance and maintenance of the Laboratory Information Systems and related interfaces.
Oversees, assigns and performs various support activities to facilitate operation of the department and laboratory, which may include pre-analytical or post-analytical processes or activities.
Contributes subject matter expertise to laboratory, nursing, and other healthcare workers regarding Information technology activities and actively participates in education and training for laboratory and/or clinical personnel throughout all campuses
Actively participates in, and has knowledge of, laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities, including resolution of customer services issues, evaluation of new equipment, methods, procedures or processes.
Follows and ensures adherence of staff to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times.
Provides technical and support information related to the elements of laboratory testing for all age groups, from neo-nates through geriatric patients
Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, hand washing, and hazardous chemical handling. Adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area. Employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Does not have patient contact and does not enter patient rooms.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department, including fulfilling Department Manager’s responsibilities in their absence.
