DNV GL Technical Writer in Oakland, California
DNV’s Markets & Risk group is seeking a creative and collaborative team member with a vision for the future of the energy industry for our Energy Insights team. This position can be based out of any of our North American offices and a remote position would be considered for the right candidate. The successful candidate will serve as Technical and Creative Writer, partnering with consulting teams to plan, write, edit, format, and develop graphics for technical research studies, work plans, bid proposals, presentations, marketing materials, and other documents.
The right candidate will demonstrate expertise in all facets of document creation, a quick grasp of technical subject matter, a passion for clean energy and sustainability, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, and a positive, service-oriented attitude. This position offers opportunities for traveling to attend client offices and sites, other DNV office locations, conferences, and trainings.
This position can be based out of any of our DNV offices preferrably Oakland or West Coast. Remote work will also be considered from any location in the Continental U.S.
What You’ll Do
Partner with project managers to help guide the document development process, creating editorial schedules, report outlines, and content development plans for upcoming research reports
Prepare and edit document content to communicate complex technical content in a clear, accessible way
Materials will include research reports, project communications, organizational charts and workflow diagrams, work plans, proposals, presentations, and conference papers
Editing may include substantially restructuring and rewriting long documents, composing original text for context or clarification, and correcting for grammar, punctuation, and style
Thoughtfully use client feedback to revise drafts and respond to client comments
Work adeptly within custom reporting and presentation templates in MS Word and PowerPoint. Develop expert knowledge about DNV templates and styles, advising and consulting on brand and style guidelines
As a secondary role, collaborate with Business Development to produce proposals and marketing materials. Write and edit content for bid proposals, presentations, conference abstracts, and other projects
Provide internal training to other DNV consultants on best practices in report development and the writing process, MS Word, and other topics
What is Required
Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, Writing, Journalism, or related field,Master’s degree preferred
Three (3) or more years of experience in similar editing positions,e.g.producing reports, presentations, and proposals in a consulting environment
Demonstrated ability, through samples and work history, to serve as a writer and editor with technical acumen
Demonstrated knowledge and experience using style guides, especially Chicago and AP
Experience and comfort managing multiple, shifting priorities during weekly task loads
Expert skills in MS Word (working with templates, defined styles, etc.) and PowerPoint
Outstanding written and oral English communication skills
We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
What is Preferred
Knowledge of the energy industry (including utilities, energy efficiency, renewable energy, decarbonization, greenhouse gas reduction)
Knowledge of government energy and/or energy efficiency programs
Experience in a consulting environment
Experience with MS Teams or other remote collaboration
Experience creating and editing graphics or other visual work products
Experience with RFP responses (proposals), business development, and/or marketing communications
Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Visio

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act and New York City Salary Transparency Law, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado or New York City. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado and New York City, NY only, the range of starting pay for this role is $60,000 - $86,000.
