Saint-Gobain Research North America is looking for a collaborative, talented, and energetic architectural/industrial design leader to join our growing CertainTeed R&D team. Saint-Gobain is a worldwide leader in developing innovative, high-performance solutions for the building industry through our unparalleled expertise in customer-centric design, materials, optimization, and construction.
We are searching for a leader to animate our Design team that sparks innovation in our solution portfolio, which encompasses panelized offsite construction, integrated solar roofing, digital tools, siding, insulation, and interior finishing products enabling Saint-Gobain to strongly impact how we will be building in the future. Our Design team is part of the Solutions Development team, a diverse multi-disciplinary team with skillsets spanning from Architecture, Industrial design, digital optimization, building science, mechanics, and computational physics. Our team’s scope is to uncover opportunities for new solutions in building construction, addressing historical pain points and potential areas of unrecognized value to our customers, end users, and future.
The Group Leader, Design, will be responsible for leading a growing Design team tasked with identifying and developing new products for the commercial and residential construction markets with an emphasis on some of the key industry trends such as Offsite, Solar, and circular economy solutions. The candidate will work on product and construction development– from concept to launch – directing a cross-functional team of industrial, architectural, and mechanical designers, all working closely with R&D, sales, marketing, and operations. The team must interface effectively with our diverse customer pool composed of contractors, installers, homeowners, designers, architects, commercial team members, and manufacturing/process engineers for the business to expand its potential. The candidate will also play a key role in leveraging synergies within the Saint-Gobain organization collaborating with design teams from other R&D centers.
The candidate will need to:
Efficiently manage a team of multiple designers, and architects to deliver innovative solutions to the building construction industry.
Provide mentoring and guidance to their team members for positive career growth.
Desire to impact the future of building construction via the delivery of innovative and meaningful solutions.
Elaborate strategy for a relevant project pipeline and competency development necessary to the group’s development and expertise.
Be able to balance creativity with process and documentation.
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary agile development team working on multiple projects simultaneously (with team members having a background in Design, Architecture, Mechanics, Building Science, Physics, Material science…).
Leverage understanding of building construction and/or background in industrial design to develop both physical prototypes and numerical tools and to accelerate product development and empower commercialization.
Animate recurring design critique reviews and foster a culture around efficient feedback within the team to enhance and streamline development and decision-making.
Communicate with internal and external collaborators and utilize knowledge to advance projects and identify productive synergies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 10+ PhD + 6 years of experience in Industrial Design in Industrial Design, Architecture, or Mechanical Design
