Exceptional Childrenis Preschool Case ManagerGENERAL STATEMENT OF JOBUnder general supervision, performs a variety of professional work to assist in the coordination of the Exceptional Childrenis Preschool Services for Wilkes County Schools. Work involves functioning as a consultant to schools and community agencies and ensuring the implementation of required policies and procedures affecting students with disabilities. Employee is responsible for reviewing psychological reports, medical reports, IEPs and achievement test results to help determine eligibility and placement of students with disabilities. Work is guided by and must be in compliance with Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities.iiSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssists in assuring compliance with state/federal regulations and policiesAttends icountywide iIEP imeetings ifor ipreschool istudents iserved iin ithe iExceptional iChildrenis ProgramServes as LEA representative for meetings conducted by preschool itinerant teachersResolves issues relating to the delivery of special education services for itinerant preschool servicesProvides technical assistance to special education itinerant teachers in developing appropriate IEPs, scheduling, developing behavior management plans, etcAs appropriate, acts as a mentor to iInitially Licensedi special education teachers Conducts student observations required for eligibility determination, as needed.Upon request schedules/conducts staff development activities for preschool teachers Coordinates transition of children from Early Intervention to School Services Coordinates all initial referrals for preschool childrenSupervises and coordinates preschool itinerant staffCoordinates the provision of related services for preschool students in the Exceptional Childrenis ProgramPlans and conducts screenings at community based centerServes as a member of LICC (local interagency)Serves as a liaison between the school system and other agencies involved in referral, placement, and delivery of services (child find)Meets regularly and consults with members of EC staff to discuss matters affecting students qualifying for exceptional childrenis servicesMaintains records and documentation necessary for the execution of the job and as required by the exceptional childrenis departmentCollaborates with CDSAPerforms other related work as requirediiMINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEDegree in Special Education or a related field, and at least 3 years of successful teaching experience with students that have disabilities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilitiesiiMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSMust be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, typewriters, copiers, etc. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
