Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is hiring an Associate in the Loan Capital Markets Group.


  • Assist senior members of the team and marketing officers with input for pitches and underwriting memos such as market updates and appropriate comps. Responsible for first draft of materials and processing for internal approvals.

  • Prepare marketing materials such as pitches, Confidential Information Memorandums and Lender presentations.

  • Support the execution of underwritten and best efforts transactions in which SMBC acts as a Left Lead or Right Lead bank including prepating syndication updates, maintaining datasites and other administrative tasks key to the execution and closing of syndicated loans.

  • Develop collaborative relationships with the credit and client coverage teams and other product groups during the pitching, structuring and primary syndication process to ensure flawless execution of mandated transactions.

  • Support in the preparation of client materials (presentations, proposals, RFPs, term sheets, etc.)

  • Undertake research and analytics related to specific sectors, regions, large corporate groups or individual companies, and stay abreast of current market conditions.

  • Provide regular / ad hoc reports for management.

  • Maintain and provide regular input to Comparables Database (database of comparable transactions and market trends) and League Tables; ensure database is current and accurate and all new deals are reflected; review and provide feedback to team on a weekly basis and produce comparables sheet for all required meetings.


  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint and ability to maintain, manipulate and improve the comps database.

  • Intellectually curious about the transactions with aptitude to determine the credit risks and strengths of comparable transactions.

  • Able to quickly learn and adapt to internal policies, processes, grading and other systems. Able to work well in a culturally diverse and team oriented environment. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and an interest in continuous learning.

  • Highly collaborative and flexible in a team and client environment and ability to form good relationships internally and externally. Able to coordinate and communicate with various internal departments across the bank (middle/back office, global counterparts).

  • Organizes thoughts and clearly articulates points, both verbally and in writing, to management or other internal departments; i.e.. ability to summarize and explain transactions.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.

  • Self-driven and motivated; takes personal ownership of specific assignments. Able to raise flags and/or consult with senior members as appropriate.

  • Strong work ethic and high degree of attention to detail with an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial model

  • Ability to work in a high energy and demanding environment

  • ESG knowledge and experience would be a plus.
