The Electrical and Controls Supervisor is responsible for daily supervision of the maintenance electrical and instrument controls department ensuring a productive workforce while remaining in compliance with company policies. Supervises, directs and coordinates maintenance of power plant electrical, instrumentation, environmental CEMS monitoring and control systems in a safe, efficient, reliable and environmental acceptable manner to support the plant s generation of electricity. Provides work planning, procurement of tools, materials and equipment, coordination of electrical and controls work and services from contractors
Contribute to an effective safety program by promoting a safety conscious attitude on the part of all employees, ensuring that safe work practices are followed, and that a safe and clean work environment is maintained.
Provides leadership and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs by monitoring completion of safety concerns, attends required safety and environmental meetings, and supporting plant s goals
Support maintenance activities in accordance with the NRG Work Management Process guidelines related to electrical, instrumentation, relays, and breakers, transformer and controls.
Coordinate the electrical, instrumentation and controls outage activities in accordance with NRG Outage Work Management process including planning, scheduling, tagging, testing, upgrading, modifications, and restoration.
Provide coordination between the Electric and Controls (I&C) Shop and all other resource areas of the plant, such as Mechanical Maintenance, Operations, Procurement, Fuel Yard, Lab, and Admin groups.
Development of work order plan packages that include labor, material, equipment, Lockout-Tagout, technical support and Quality Assurance requirements
Development and use of work scope packages for each activity performed during unit outages including all related pre & post outage activities.
Promotes productivity and teamwork in I&C Maintenance with open communication, timely decision making, and use of personal leadership skills to set high standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance.
Effective use of the SAP and scheduling software.
Ensure that plant history and other technical files are maintained to document maintenance activities.
Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement.
Ensures work performed by external service providers is in support of objectives, responsibilities, and contractual agreement
Ensures that employees correctly use the lock out/tag out program in order to promote safe operations and maintenance
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of power plant or related industrial experience performing highly skilled electrical and controls system maintenance and repair.
Experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing and correcting I&C problems, as well as experience with diagnostic testing procedures and repair practices for low and medium voltage switchgear and electric motors, generators and transformers.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
Good oral and written communications, administrative capabilities and planning and analytical skills.
Strong leadership skills to supervise, direct, motivate, train and discipline subordinate personnel. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others including operators, vendors, contractors, subordinates, peers, and superiors.
Ability to perform equipment inspections in confined spaces and heights, work extended hours and promptly respond to emergency call-ins.
Must have ability to wear the protective equipment used in production facilities as required by federal and state safety and health standards.
Advanced degree in engineering or a related discipline.
Experience with SAP
Experience leading and supervising personnel
Able to work off-shift schedule and to work overtime as needed.
This position requires the ability to safely use, handle and inspect equipment containing (and perform maintenance in close proximity to sources of), hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous wastes as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations.
The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above. In the employee s normal immediate work area, this position requires the employee to be routinely familiar with, and to appropriately respond to, the hazards identified above, including, but not limited to repairs on equipment containing chemicals, containment of chemical leaks, response to electrical interruptions, etc. This response would encompass appropriate personal protection techniques, the following of safety procedures such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out procedures, and the following of environmental procedures.
Must be able to climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 80 feet and more; crawl to the through confined areas; correctly wear and work using air purifying respirator.
This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50 pounds and to see, hear, walk and talk effectively. Must be able to wear an air purifying respirator and use other safety equipment as required.
