Your Role and Responsibilities

Designers in IBM HR Services are part of a cross-functional team that delivers unique, internally-focused experiences that determine how employees engage with IBM and develop their careers.

As part of a new and transformative team, you will drive design decisions as a project lead across the lifecycle of UX, user research, and visual design. The team is responsible for the expression of the IBM brand in every experience delivered, and our designers are expected to protect and nurture IBM's brand expression by utilizing a deep understanding of IBM's Design Language and Carbon Design System.

The right candidate should have conceptual skills and be able to partner daily with Product Owners, Offering Owners, and Development Leads to deliver and influence product roadmaps with an empathetic view of the IBMer in mind. As a contributor to a team that is changing the internal enterprise experience, you are someone who is creative, curious, questioning, and open to receiving and providing critique. You don't wait to have someone tell you what to do in your role, you listen intently to the needs of IBM employees and desired business outcomes and provide thoughtful direction.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Be highly skilled in both visual and UX design and be able to evaluate the success of your solutions through user research

  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually

  • Produce UX artifacts such as personas, user journeys, site maps, and guiding design principles

  • Craft UI wireframes, prototypes, and mock ups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces

  • Ensure quality control and deliver experience and technical outcomes

  • Apply Enterprise Design Thinking methodologies to empower diverse perspectives across global teams

  • Apply a lens of diversity & inclusion to promote fair and equitable workforce practices in IBM HR

  • Be comfortable framing business solutions around technology

  • Ability to be seen as a disrupter to outdated practices and advocate for change where needed and backed by data-driven decision making

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 1+ year of experience as a UX Designer

  • Demonstrable knowledge of wire framing and design tools such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.

  • Experience in solving complex user problems through user interface design, creating mock ups and prototypes (low- and high- fidelity), as well as documenting interaction patterns for product UI

  • Strong communication, storytelling and documentation skills

  • Experience using agile principles towards the delivery of product

  • A portfolio of previous work must be presented incorporating UI designs and/or sketches that demonstrate an understanding of wire framing, interaction design, visual design, and design best practices

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3+ years of experience as a UX Designer

  • Ability to work with brand and design guidelines

  • Understand modern design thinking and design trends (including responsiveness

  • and accessibility)

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail
