Diageo Sr. Legal Counsel - Secondment in Mexico City, Mexico
Job Description :
This role has primary responsibility for leading the agenda which includes supporting and advising front office areas in Diageo Mexico.
The key function is proactive legal counseling and support to the business in Commercial, Supply and strategic areas to drive the business agenda in a very complex, regulated and restrictive environment.
Purpose of Role:
Critical role supporting the Mexico Legal Director performing general legal work for the Mexico IMC, including in particular:
Acting as Business Partner of front office areas, by giving an optimal and timely legal support, understanding the priorities of each internal customer.
Assessing the impact of any legislation and ensure that Diageo’s policies and processes are aligned to such regulations.
Being an active leader, including contacting with all the relevant authorities in order to challenge and drive policy aligned with Diageo’s values, growth drivers and strategy.
Reviewing, preparing certain documents, letters and contracts. Summarizing contracts for input into the Contracts Management System.
Managing the status and listing agreements with customers and clients.
Enable Diageo and Mexico to deliver objectives creatively, legally and ethically.
Preserve value (financial and reputational) by minimizing the risk of value leakage and litigation and maintaining compliance with laws and Diageo’s Codes, especially the commercial and marketing implementations.
Leading and delivering trainings to the IMC front office in connection with policies under the scope of the legal team.
Acting as Case Manager, in order that all breaches where legal is involved are managed on time, and on a fairly basis, building a culture of discipline.

IMC Champion of Data Privacy and Antitrust agendas.
Contribute to Diageo Mexico´s operation, specifically, creating possibilities utilizing functional experience to advance possibilities to real outcomes and accelerating processes.
Act as role model.
Ensure good commercial, supply, advertising and compliance, including training.
Accountable for end-to-end legal spend and own any budget variance.
Lead all the business agenda (all projects).
Management of key stakeholders (CR Director, Mkt Director, Commercial Director, General Manager,
Top 3-5 Accountabilities:
Function as a highly effective, pragmatic legal and business adviser and make unique value-creating contributions to Diageo Mexico.
Minimize legal risk by being involved in key projects, guiding resolution of issues and proactively creating an environment where risk is avoided (monetary and reputational).
Ensure that the Legal Function is an integral part of the Diageo Mexico business (including visibility in market) so it receives appropriate commercial and other functional inputs.
Responsible for drafting and reviewing complex contracts.
Achieve the right balance between hands on “doing” of legal work, managing external lawyers and training of staff on relevant topics.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
Strong law and commercial/regulatory background especially in the negotiation and documentation of commercial contracts and regulatory matters.
Excellent understanding of Mexican regulatory framework.
Track record of effectively managing and leading a team, as well as stakeholders.
Strong influencing and coaching skills.
Ability to work confidently and stand ground with senior managers.
Mexico qualified lawyer with at least eight years of experience.
