The Director of Safety is responsible for raising company safety performance by tying culture, wellness and safety together for the company. This position is responsible for mitigating risk and promoting safety and wellness programs and services by developing, implementing and evaluating safety and prevention programs that encourage the corporation, team members and their families to focus on healthy living and safe work promotion.
People or Process Management Responsibility: No
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Leadership and development of safety culture through engagement.
Facilitation and program management of safety training programs based on task analysis, needs assessments and business strategy.
Maintenance of Health and Safety Procedures, Policies and Training programs.
Gather, compute, analyze and deliver performance metrics on safety and training to locations, supervisors and management.
Lead and develop a team of safety professionals.
Perform focused audits of our compliance processes, determine gaps, identify corrective action options, champion preferred options and implement gap closure actions.
Accountable for implementing and delivering results of corporate and company safety and risk management initiatives.
Manage the incident reporting and investigation process to ensure accurate and timely reporting of all claim information to mitigate future similar injuries.
Work with the corporate Leaves Department to ensure proper and efficient handling of Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, and General Liability claims.
Participate in work comp claim reviews.
Provide guidance to field teams on modified duty assignments, interactive process, and employment decisions.
Facilitate training for managers, supervisors and employees on safe work practices, including: Back Injury Prevention, accident and injury prevention, hazard recognition and awareness, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Coordinate the planning, research, compliance and delivery of corporate wellness programs and services through collaboration with vendor partners, internal departments and other corporate staff and managers.
Develop and compile data to identify and monitor wellness and disease management guidelines and procedures to establish and achieve effective long-range goals and objectives.
Conduct risk assessments and recommend solutions to mitigate identified risks.
Develop and implement safety recognition programs that drive reductions in injuries/accidents.
Travel between facilities and market units on a regular basis to deliver safety management programs.
Review monthly program outcomes and program utilization reports; make recommendations to enhance participation of current programs and to develop/execute new programs.
Completes and finishes other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring maximum participation in the wellness programs.
Any other projects or duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) / Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Required Skills and Experience:
BA/BS Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Risk Management or related field.
At least 10 years safety management experience.
Experience in distribution and manufacturing.
Capability to lead and develop a safety culture trough engagement of all levels.
OSHA and DOT experience.
Interest in process improvement, value stream mapping, and process reengineering.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills dealing with all levels of employees, customers, and management.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to facilitate training for all levels of employees, supervision and management.
Self-starter with ability to follow-up and follow through and meet deadlines
Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment
