Job Description:

30% - Project Management

Lead a team of project managers in planning, executing, and delivering IT projects on time, within scope, and within budget. Collaborate with campus leadership to prioritize projects based on institutional needs and resource availability. Establish and maintain project management standards, methodologies, and best practices. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with IT projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and standards. Develop and maintain robust contingency plans to address potential issues and disruptions. Manage resources, including personnel, budget, and technology assets, effectively to support project and service delivery.

30% - Service Management

Oversee the implementation, administration, and optimization of campus service portfolio to support IT service delivery. Ensure effective incident, problem, change, and request management processes are in place. Develop and implement change management competencies and programs for the university. Define and track objectives and key results (OKRs) to measure the success and impact of IT projects and services. Collaborate with campus leadership to develop real-time dashboards and reporting metrics. Prepare regular reports and presentations for campus leadership to communicate progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.

20% - Strategic Leadership

Develop and communicate a clear vision, strategy, and roadmap for project management, change management, and service delivery in alignment with the university’s mission and objectives. Participate as key member of KU IT senior leadership team. Additionally, mentor, coach, and develop team members to enhance their skills, knowledge, and capabilities in project management, service management, and related areas. Develop and manage unit budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to meet team and department needs. Provide input to the overall IT budget and investment decisions. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team. Identify opportunities for resource optimization and efficiency improvements.

15% - Stakeholder Collaboration

Collaborate with key stakeholders across the university, including academic departments, administrative units, and external partners, to understand their needs and priorities and ensure that IT projects and services meet their requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience.

  2. Five years of experience in a supervisory and/or progressively responsible management role.

  3. Professional project management certification (ex: PMP, Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, etc.).

  4. Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Position Overview:

The Director of Project Management, Change Management, and Service Portfolio at the University of Kansas plays a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the strategic planning, implementation, and execution of projects and services. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Director is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of technology initiatives that align with the university's goals and policies.
