SSM Health Data Engineer Lead in Jefferson City, Missouri


  • Works with external partners to ensure the health of data extracts. May work directly with subject matter experts to define or troubleshoot data migration issues.

  • Develops templates and standards for ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load/Extract, Load, Transform) development. Possesses a strong understanding of existing ETL/ELT processes and can quickly troubleshoot and remediate issues.

  • Exhibits an understanding of health system data, principles, and coding standards (CPT, ICD, LOINC).

  • Acts as a "trainer" for new technologies and techniques. Reviews new technologies and makes recommendations for adoption to management.

  • May guide the daily activities of an assigned team. Coaches and develops talent. Assists with the identification and procurement of team talent.

  • Influences department strategy on data engineering and other functional areas.

  • Owns strategic projects autonomously. Coaches and develops talent. Leads junior talent in delivering on business-critical initiatives.

  • Defines code management principles.

  • Presents or participates on panels to further the discipline and represent organization.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Ten years’ experience


  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Rare climbing.
