Eaton Corporation Application Engineer, Brightlayer Utility in Houston, Texas
Eaton’s North American Sales Division is currently seeking an Application Engineer, Brightlayer Utility to join our team. This position can be based at the following locations: Houston, TX; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; Warrendale, PA or Waukesha, WI. Relocation assistance will be offered.
The application engineer is a consultative, technical sales professional responsible for supporting utility sales, solution architects, software business development, planning engineers, utility consultants and utility end users in distribution planning and automation practices. The application engineer must possess both strong technical and commercial skills and be experienced in electric utility power distribution, planning and automation. In addition, he/she must serve as a subject matter expert for Eaton’s CYMDIST planning software, along with other Brightlayer utility automation applications. The role will provide application and end user support to position Eaton as a preferred supplier and partner.

In this function you will:
Assist sales representatives during product demonstrations and solutions presentations onsite and remotely
Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support & work with internal Eaton teams, consultants and end customers to identify business problems, facilitate requirements design thinking sessions, architecture presentations, product feature descriptions and value propositions and demo the Eaton Brightly utility applications including CYMDIST planning software
Work with the technical sales engineers, global account directors, business development managers, solution architects and proposals teams to put together compelling proposals for Eaton’s end to end utility portfolio
Respond to RFP documents, put together solution requirements and design, system customization and configurations packaged with software and service
Assist with existing and new account planning and strategy to bring in Eaton software and hardware content and drive revenue growth; provide technical and sales consulting, support for end user CapEx and OpEx investments
Provide specific voice of customer feedback to appropriate product, system, solution and service business leaders for future product development, quality, modification, customer satisfaction and other purposes
Support and drive end user interface strategy with assigned sales teams to build strong support with decision makers
Demo and specification listing to win customer projects
Customer satisfaction (solution/architecture fit, pricing, quality and roadmap alignment)
Opportunity funnel growth for identified electrical portfolio of products, software, services and turn-key solutions
Revenue growth linked to specification listing, proposal response time and hit rate
Utility Regional VP
Regional technical sales engineers/application engineers
Digital pursuit teams – offer management, solution architects and product management
Regional project management, service sales and proposals teams
Division product line assemblies and components teams

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Minimum of seven (7) years of deep domain expertise and experience with utility power distribution, planning and automation
Highly fluent with emerging industry trends and implications on customers such as grid optimization solutions, distribution automation, substation automation, distributed energy resources and energy storage solutions
Five (5) plus years of experience developing and translating business use cases to solution requirements and architecture documentation, with a focus on electrical products, solutions, software and services
Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
Experience working in a utility planning department
Five (5) plus years of outcomes selling, consultative, selling experience to executive and technical buyers
Technology leadership, self-motivation and drive to work with internal Eaton and external (partner, client) stakeholders for client satisfaction with the ability to communicate with all levels (executive, technical) internally and externally, and manage through long term relationships and influence.
Collaborative: develops longer term working relationships with the regional utility segment leaders, product managers, delivery and engineering teams & leverages influence to drive new ideas for growth
Drives innovation through a culture of learning, front line empowerment risk taking and obsessive customer focus
Change agent for our customers/clients, regional sales organization, working through influence, trust and champion of new ideas
Excellent client/customer facing skills with the ability to represent Eaton’s electrical portfolio and be able to articulate Eaton’s value propositions
Strategic business acumen and complex problem-solving skills in a highly matrixed organization
Ability to travel up to 25%
