Air Education and Training Command Recreation Assistant (Lead Lifeguard) in Holloman AFB, New Mexico

Summary About the position: This is a NAF (Non Appropriated Fund) position assigned to the 49th Force Support Squadron at the Holloman Air Force Base Domenici Fitness and Sports Center Some physical exertion is required in effecting a swimming rescue, must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds and over. Responsibilities Serves as a lead lifeguard over two or more lifeguards and over Water Safety Instructors (WSI) in the performance of lifeguard and related swimming facility duties for the Indoor Pool at the Domenici Fitness & Sports Center (DFSC). Ensures safe pool environment and resource protection standards are in compliance with established procedures. Directs, instructs, and reviews staff work assignments providing specific tasks, procedures and techniques and On the Job Training (OJT). Ensures strict adherence and precise attention to detail and work assignments are accomplished. Observes swimming area to ensure it is open and closed on time, safety standards are met, and only authorized persons are using the indoor pool. When necessary, invokes a variety of techniques to assist at risk swimmers such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and first aid. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Possesses physical ability to swim and rescue swimmers of all ages, including adults, and to administer CPR to adults, children, and infants. Must possess an approved current and valid nationally recognized certification as a lifeguard (shallow water lifeguard minimum), basic first aid, and CPR which covers lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures for adult, child and infant. Working knowledge to satisfactorily and safely accomplish basic pool maintenance. Knowledge of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment, and materials to perform standing and recurring tasks. Ability to effectively communicate orally. Must acquire Lifeguarding instructor and WSI Certification within 90 days of hiring. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
