Amentum Boiler Turbine Plant Control Room Operator Lead VI in GROTON, Connecticut

Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a Lead Boiler/Turbine Plant Operator for our highly complex, critical environment, pharmaceutical power house team in Groton, CT!

  • To ensure 24/7 coverage, these positions work 12-hour shifts on the “Dupont Schedule” with 4 teams.

    As the Lead Boiler/Turbine Plant Operator, you will perform many daily duties, including:

  • Providing lead coverage and work direction; coordinating activities with customer and technicians; conducting startup and pass down meetings; coordinating daily workload; and ensuring work assignments are completed accurately and timely.

  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on the central power plant equipment and facilities. Equipment includes , but is not limited to: feed water systems, industrial chillers, related control systems, and associated distributed utilities. Operating three duel fuel 600 psig industrial steam boilers and the associated site distribution via Delta V DCS system.

  • Operating a Gas Turbine and Waste Heat Recovery Steam Generator.

  • Providing power generation and distribution as well as parallel/islanding operation.

  • Distributing generated nitrogen as well as bulk delivery storage.

  • Managing return condensate/steam trap systems and ancillaries.

  • Making equipment rounds, testing chemistry, collecting data, and making minor equipment repairs.

  • Acting as first response to alarm conditions including escalation, where appropriate.

  • Taking corrective action for abnormal events or system failures.

  • Keeping logs and recording retention for systems, including regulatory requirements and maintaining system performance within permitted levels (air, water, and basin discharge).

  • Performing other duties as assigned by Management.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  • 8 years of technical experience in any skilled trade including operating and maintaining steam driven turbines in a large commercial or industrial environment including chiller plant, cooling tower and support equipment experience, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Possess a State of Connecticut OE-2 Operating Stationary Engineer license or equivalent experience.

  • Fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

  • Ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

  • This position may require a valid Driver’s License.

  • Must be a United States citizen or Permanent Resident.

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

    Some physical requirements include:

  • Regularly lift to 50 lbs.

  • Regularly climb ladders, steps, and scaffolding.

  • Repetitive motions: bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, reach, wrist movement.

  • Walk extensively throughout the plant during shift

  • Work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions.

  • Ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

    Special Requirements: Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed. Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent trade school diploma in industrial electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or a related skilled trade.

  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.

  • Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.

  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.

  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with the following equipment: feed water systems, water softener, condensate systems, natural gas and fuel oil fired steam boilers, turbine, air compressors and chemical water treatment.
