About this Job: The position resides within the Toxicology & Health Sciences (THS) group, which is part of the global Product Safety function at Syngenta. The person hired into this position will be expected to provide technical expertise in regulatory toxicology to support human health risk assessments and registrations of plant protection products. This person will assume accountability for a portfolio of active ingredients to maintain and expand product registrations, with a primary focus in North America. The regulatory toxicologist represents THS to individual projects working in multi-disciplinary teams to enable dossier submissions and responses to regulatory questions. This person will be expected to represent THS and Syngenta to external stakeholders, including US EPA and Canada PMRA. The regulatory toxicologist will also be expected to contribute to THS teams in their area of expertise to specify and manage studies, and provide interpreted data and advice to projects globally.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Contribute to product life cycle management, ensuring that projects are properly scoped, conducted, and delivered on time to meet regulatory and business needs • Influence the development of technical and techno-regulatory strategies and project work plans by contributing to multi-disciplinary project teams • Represent THS to internal stakeholders by preparing and presenting scientific advice and positions to regulatory and business stakeholders • Represent THS externally to regulatory agencies in North America to understand and respond to the regulatory concerns and advocate for scientific positions held by Syngenta • Manage all aspects of studies in area of expertise, including study specification, conduct, problem solving, interpretation, and reporting; candidates with expertise in systemic and target organ toxicology, neurotoxicology, or developmental and reproductive toxicology are desired • Ensure delivery of quality results and sound interpretation by collaborating with scientists in THS and other Product Safety technical disciplines • Seek out latest developments in toxicology and risk assessment, and in consultation with other technical experts, assesses potential impact and utility of these developments • Rapidly assimilate study and project information in order to make a significant positive and early contribution to studies and products • Contribute to the scientific literature and conferences to influence strategic direction and promote risk assessment-based approaches to regulation
• A Ph.D. in toxicology preferred, applicants with BS or MS degrees and commensurate experience will be considered • Experience in specifying and managing toxicology studies conducted to regulatory guidelines (i.e., OECD) at CROs • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation • Experience interpreting complex data from individual studies and across a toxicological database • Experience or strong understanding of the purpose and conduct of toxicology studies in the context of risk assessment
