The Walt Disney Company Senior Software Engineer in Glendale, California

Job Summary:

The Sr. Software Engineer is an experienced individual that works in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers as they focus on large development projects while defining and updating theatrical distribution workflows and requirements. This individual will lead the development of specifications for major software development projects.

This position reports into the VP Engineering, Theatrical Distribution at Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution and is based in Glendale, CA.


  • Owns and leads large development projects and teams where a project comprises multiple components

  • Represents the interests of the company in industry forums in the digital cinema space (e.g. standards bodies, etc.)

  • Leads the development, testing, and deployment of highly innovative, large, complex software solutions that meet specifications and significantly impact future developments

  • Creates protocols, documentation, and tools for the installation and maintenance of major resilient software projects

  • Defines and updates theatrical distribution workflows and requirements

  • Leads the development of specifications for major software development projects

  • Any other duties needed to help achieve Business Objectives

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate and depict technical concepts in business terms

  • 4+ years of progressively related experience in design, development, and implementation of high-performance and scalable business-to-business systems

  • 4+ years development experience with digital cinema toolkits and libraries (e.g. asdcplib or Wailua)

  • 4+ years experience with the following languages: C++, Python, Javascript/NodeJS, Perl, and Bourne shell

  • Expertise in Linux environments

  • Participation in digital cinema industry working groups a plus (e.g. SMPTE 21DC, ISDCF)

  • Deep experience with cinema technology standards (XML, X.509, AES-128, PKI, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of digital cinema standards (packaging, compression, encryption)

  • Understanding of projection systems, digital imaging, color science, etc.

  • Familiarity with post-production workflows, color-grading, CIE color-space transformations,

  • Previous experience building, coaching, and leading software engineers
