The Associate Manager, Consumer Insights will support the Senior Manager, Consumer Insights in overseeing all fire/life safety brands within the global portfolio (Kidde, Edwards Signaling, Badger, Gloria), but with a focus on the Kidde brand.
The Consumer Insights team at Kidde brings together the voice of the consumer across 3 strategic areas:
Innovation and Product Development Insights
Shopper/Channel and Sales/Trade Insights
Consumer and Brand/Media Insights, including digital spaces/experiences
This role will lead research to guide brand strategy, communication, and product innovation in support of internal Passport Gates, along with ad hoc analyses at the direction of the Sr. Manager of Insights.
This role requires an understanding of custom consumer research methodologies and syndicated market insight sources with an obsession for continuous learning and improvement. The ideal candidate will have experience in consumer, shopper and retail ad hoc research, syndicated market analysis, product use testing, and knowledge of testing in digital and social environments.
Above all, this candidate has strong communication skills (verbal, written, & visual) and has developed skills in story-telling. The candidate is able to collaborate cross-functionally in a matrixed environment, is curious, inspires others, and makes bold decisions/recommendations.
Role Responsibilities
Model and promote a consumer-centric mindset throughout the organization - from sharing of consumer, shopper and retailer learning, to leading immersion and activation workshops to bring insights to action
Communicate complex insights and recommendations verbally, in senior leadership interactions, and through written presentations, utilizing "storytelling techniques" to tell a clear and compelling story
Share and support consumer foundational learning throughout the organization, ensuring the consumer is at the forefront of everything we do
Translate insight needs into learning plans, set scope, define strategy and use the appropriate methods (qualitative, quantitative or both) to address consumer or marketplace information needs for business partners
Vet research suppliers for capabilities and identify who to partner with; manage external research suppliers to ensure delivery against project objectives on all aspects of the research including methodology design, budget, fieldwork execution, analysis plans, final report generation, and presentations to commercialize insights
Ensure research deliverables are met with excellence (on time, on scope, within budget)
Distill research findings into clear and compelling narratives, data visualizations and/ or infographics
Effectively communicate insights to the right audience (brand/marketing, media, sales/trade, creative, strategy or retailers) in a way that enables stakeholders to drive strategy and make impactful business decisions
Lead innovation research to support the Kidde Passport gates process from idea development to assessment of in-market potential (among homeowners and professionals)
Monitor and share out industry, competitive, and trend activity to inform on key market changes
Partner cross-functionally to identify other opportunities for Consumer Insights to add value
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of experience in Consumer Insights, or an advanced degree (MBA, Master’s, Doctorate) with a minimum of 3 years of Consumer Insights experience
Willingness to travel up to 10%, including up to 2 times per quarter for research, sales meetings, and other related activities
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, marketing, and statistics
Consumer Insights experience, preferably in the CPG industry
Experience in innovation, shopper, channel research preferred.
Self-starter, possess the flexibility to work in a fast-changing environment and ambiguous situations
Energetic and driven by the mission to enhance people’s home and life safety
Passion for customer experience, combined with business curiosity and a strategic viewpoint
Experience directly supporting Marketing and Product Development teams, consulting throughout the process to ensure insights-driven activations
Experience leading and influencing cross-functionally
Knowledge in areas such as quantitative and qualitative techniques, new product development, consumer/shopper journey, brand tracking, and collaboration to measure performance in the market
Strong ability to simply and clearly communicate key insights with understanding and objectivity; able to create compelling stories to generate recommendations & influence
Be able to synthesize data from disparate sources such as primary, secondary, and syndicated and turn it into insights, tell a story, share trends
Strong background in managing Consumer Insights projects from beginning to end; ability to DIY research as needed (Quantilope & Centercode experience a plus, or similar)
Well-versed in the Insights industry with what partners have to offer, especially quick turn solutions and syndicated data
Experience building/leading a central location product testing lab
UX testing experience preferred (digital and physical product testing)
Global research experience
Experience with both homeowner and professional audiences preferred (electricians, home builders, etc)
Experience researching shopper journeys throughout Home Improvement Retail, eCommerce and Distributor channels
Experience presenting to Senior Management
