Robert Half Payroll Clerk in Foster City, California


We are searching for a meticulous Payroll Clerk to join our growing team located in Foster City, California. The role primarily involves processing multi-state payroll, calculating employee wages and deductions, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing the HR database, resolving payroll-related inquiries, and assisting the Accounts Receivable team.


• Process multi-state payroll in alignment with company policies and applicable regulations

• Calculate and record employee wages, 401(k) contributions, medical insurance, and FSA deductions

• Review timesheets, attendance records, and payroll reports for completeness and accuracy

• Prepare payroll journal entries promptly

• Calculate accrued vacation and record vacation accrival journal entries

• Update the HR database and maintain employee information

• Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and management promptly and professionally

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations

• Collaborate with HR and finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and implement process improvements

• Maintain confidentiality of payroll information and adhere to data protection policies

• Assist the Accounts Receivable team with collections, credit references, and credit checks.


• Prior experience of at least one year in a Payroll Clerk role

• Proficiency in using 'About Time' software for time management and tracking

• Comprehensive understanding of Accounting Functions, particularly in relation to payroll processing

• Demonstrated ability to handle payroll activities accurately and on time

• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality

• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to resolve payroll discrepancies

• Good communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with employees on payroll-related queries

• Basic knowledge of labor legislation and payroll taxes

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data management

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
