Corteva Agriscience Production Research Senior Agronomist in Formosa, Brazil
Proactively identify opportunities/needs for specific research to solve key seed production challenges regionally and where the specific crop of interest is grown globally.
Interact with regional plant breeders, trait introgration, parent characterization, research seed production, production field operation managers, and agronomists to understand needs and issues.
Interact on a regular basis with other global researchers to identify opportunities related to seed production.
Identify, establish, and actively collaborate with global production collogues on field, plant and laboratory applied research.
Serves as a technical specialist for Seed Production function; communicates and establishes desired improvements/practices.
Execute focused research to solve key seed production challenges regionally while maintain the highest possible level of human and environmental safety.
Define and coordinate projects to understand positive and negative impact on seed production.
Design and create protocols for all experiments. Coordinate, implement, and execute defined seed field, small plot laboratory, or in-plant projects. Monitor projects to achieve highest data quality utilizing available resources (own or leveraged from research locations) to conduct the experiments or trials. Utilize strong statistical skills to create consistent experimental design, data analysis and interpretation to ensure proper conduct of research to achieve good data quality and solid knowledge transfer.
Complete data analysis, interpretation, and final research progress report for documentation and knowledge sharing of research results. Assist with editing internal research progress reports as a peer reviewer.
Support the implementation of new agronomic technologies and techniques to optimize seed quality, quality, and reliability.
Stay abreast on new technologies by maintaining communications with resource persons within and outside the company. Participate in professional/technical meetings and review technical literature such as trade and scientific journals.
In direct coordination with seed field education, develop and deliver appropriate education and training materials on best management practices for production of seed crops where appropriate.
Assist in developing and delivering key agronomic materials designed to improve understanding and adoption of improved cultural practices based on sound internal and external research.
Actively transfer knowledge through means of presentations, literature, and site visits to re-inforce, educate, and audit the implementation of improved practices.
Utilize critical biological thinking, agronomy, integrated pest management and seed technology skills to provide ongoing technical troubleshooting.
Develop personal performance goals and career development plans with direct supervisor.
Proactively develop career development plans based on own interests with the focus on fostering business acumen across the company.
Identify, establish, and maintain a mentor relationship with key leadership individual(s) to maintain exposure and leverage a diversity of thought and experience outside research.

May require 30-35% travel, including some international travel.
Identifying principal components related seed production, designing experiments to test and validate components, developing methodology to evaluate detailed components across a representation of the germplasm regionally.
Identifying, developing and maintaining effective relationships and working procedures to lead, coordinate and implement experiments in remote locations ensuring consistent, proper experimental design, treatments and data collection across professional cultures.
Prioritizing cost effective, strategic experiments to evaluate emerging technologies that are most beneficial to the company. Appropriate deployment of company resources for superior return on investment. Implementation of numerous best management practices by Integrated Operations that will reduce cost of goods sold for increased company profit.
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related fields.
Desirable Ph.D. or M.S. in biological science (e.g., Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Plant Breeding, Statistics etc.).
Three to five years Seeds Industry related experience.
Intermediate English level.
Broad technical knowledge of agronomy and/or plant physiology/breeding, statistics, field and seed conditioning equipment, and a perspective of seed customer and grower needs.
Demonstrated applied research design and analysis skills with experience in summarizing research trial results.
Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new programs and data management systems.
Demonstrated personal leadership, supervision/management and organizational skills.
Ability to take personal initiative and work effectively in teams.
Assumes clear accountability for work plans and timely delivery of work products.
Capable of working with complex quantities of data and analyses. Ability to manage complex program requirements to deliver against a diverse and varied set of research projects.
