Electronics Design Engineer Position Objective:

The Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) group at Mercury Marine is looking for an Electronics Design Engineer who can lead the design and development of electronic modules across a broad range of Mercury’s award-winning propulsion systems, controls, and rigging hardware in a unique and challenging marine environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with systems engineers and project leads to define system requirements

  • Specification and design of modules and circuits to meet established requirements

  • Create and publish technical design standards and/or hardware specifications

  • Interface with suppliers (module and component, internal and external)

  • Create or support of prototype electronic module concepts

  • Management of product design to schedule

  • Verification and validation testing of prototype and production-level electrical modules including maintaining of DVP’s

  • Participate in concept reviews, design reviews, and design FMEAs

  • Troubleshoot electrical issues associated with electronic module hardware

  • Assist with or lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues related to electronic modules and control systems

  • Assist in electrical and electromechanical drawing reviews

  • Participate in cross-functional product development teams through Mercury’s High-Performance Product Development stage-gated process

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or Computer Engineering

  • 0-5 years of engineering experience working with electronic modules

  • Skilled in circuit design

  • Microcontroller expertise, specifically low-level peripherals (e.g. ADC, timers, CAN) and architectural concepts

  • Proficiency with computers; office tools such as word, excel, PowerPoint and other tools used in circuit design, simulation, and debug

  • Proficiency in the lab environment; test equipment, prototype build/modify/debug tools

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem definition and solving techniques

  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work among cross-functional teams both locally and globally, via email, phone, video and in-person (some travel, domestic and international, can be expected)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn new skills and understand new applications

  • Ability to think at the system level (application, hardware, software)

  • ECAD proficiency

  • Boating experience is highly desirable but not required

  • Electro-mechanically inclined including use of tools & machines

  • Experience with CAN tools such as MotoTune, CANalyzer or P-CAN

This position is based in Mercury Marine’s World Headquarters in Fond du Lac, WI, which is the primary location for Mercury’s product development and testing facilities.
