Blount Fine Foods Manager Sanitation in Fall River, Massachusetts

Description

The Blount family has been in the food business since 1880. Our product Line includes refrigerated and frozen gourmet soups, side dishes and entrees for food service and retail. The Company, headquartered in Fall River, MA, is the largest producer of clam chowder in New England and the largest manufacturer of Lobster bisque in the country.

Summary: Oversees Sanitation Supervisor and is ultimately accountable for all activities and results related to sanitation programs within designated location(s). This position directly interfaces with Production mgmt. and Quality Assurance departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the successful cleaning and ultimate inspection of all process equipment for conformity to federal and state sanitation laws and plant standards in an efficient manner.

  • Works closely with chemical consultant in reviewing chemical usage and operating procedures as well as keeping abreast of new technology.

  • Continuously audits premises for unsanitary practices and conditions.

  • Assures the maintenance and updating of all chemical cleaning procedures.

  • Assures the proper execution of the Master Cleaning schedule to address non-routine cleaning duties.

  • Works closely with Sanitation Supervisor, Quality Assurance and Production management regarding any sanitation concerns. Initiates resolution with appropriate teams.

  • Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation opportunities, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and effectiveness of process.

  • Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies. Routes reports to designated plant personnel.

  • Updates VP of Operations on a continuous basis regarding the successes and opportunities of his teams.

  • Directly oversees a sanitation team of approx. 24 staff and 2-3 Supervisors. Carries out these responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training permanent and temporary employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 8-10 years of related experience with process equipment sanitation. Including exposure to all requirements of Microbial control and chemical and workforce safety.

  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Experience writing routine reports and correspondence, as well as speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  • Basic mathematics skills, including the ability to calculate ratios and percentages, are required.
