This position is eligible for a Department of Defense SkillBridge Program Internship for active duty servicemembers transitioning out of the U.S. Military.

North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.

Job Description

This position is meant to provide onsite management and to serve as the onsite North Wind representative for a DOD Hazardous Waste Services contract on Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Onsite oversight of day to day program operations

  • Management of the installation Hazardous Waste Consolidation Facility

  • Supervision of onsite North Wind and subcontractor personnel

  • In-person liaising with government personnel, including maintaining good communication and good relations with the Program Managers and Contracting Officer's Representatives

  • Providing good to excellent customer service to various on-base entities

  • "Standing-in" when necessary for inspectors, drivers, and techs

  • Scheduling tasks

  • Interpretation and application of waste-related regulations (i.e. RCRA, used oil regs, TSCA, etc.)

  • Interpretation and application of EPA Region 10 regulations in order to ensure that the program remains compliant with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Offering suggestions to government client on program requirements and improvements

  • Assisting the North Wind Project Manager in providing deliverables on schedule

  • Maintaining a container delivery/waste pick-up schedule and assigning resources to execute it

  • Maintaining an inventories of waste and containers onsite

  • Tracking of waste from SAA to HWCF and beyond

  • Sampling and characterizing wastes

  • Entry of waste-related data into government provided electronic waste tracking systems (EESOH-MIS) including, but not limited to waste characterization info, sample results, dates, container IDs, container tracking info, and documentation of key dates.

  • Fostering a "safety first" culture

  • Ensuring North Wind Safety policies are observed by North Wind and subcontractor personnel,

  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

This position MUST "have at least 5 years of RCRA experience within the last 10 years, with ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, change tasks when priorities change, and good communication with the CORs and PWE Program Managers on improving the program."

  • Must be well versed in the use of computers and computer software including spreadsheets, databases, email clients, etc.

  • Experienced in electronic waste tracking systems

  • Experienced in leading and/or supervising crews of 5-10 people

  • Minimum of five years of recent experience working in a RCRA regulated environment

  • Well versed in waste management regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and change tasks when priorities change.

  • Able to read and interpret contractual documents (i.e. Scopes of Work)

  • Have a positive attitude, integrity, and strong work ethic -Ability to meet physical demands of the job

  • Must be able to obtain access to DOD installations (Ft. Wainwright)

  • Must be able to obtain CAC card for government computer system access.

Desirable Skills

  • Experienced in using DOD's EESOH-MIS system, preferably performing waste-tracking and reporting tasks

  • CDL with Hazmat endorsement
