General Responsibilities

Corporate Counsel – Privacy and Marketing

We are seeking an attorney with experience providing advice to companies and dealing with a variety of transactions. This attorney would ideally have some background in privacy and marketing law. The Corporate Counsel will support the privacy, marketing, and operations/litigation functions as well as serving as a valued partner in providing legal advice to various departments, including IT, Marketing, Sales, Procurement, Operations, and HR. The Corporate Counsel will be a member of the Hertz Law Department and its Operations/Litigation practice group.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Researching, reviewing, and providing counsel and advice regarding various privacy laws, marketing laws, and best practices

  • Drafting and negotiating privacy and data security exhibits, GDPR addendums, marketing sponsorships, and other contracts

  • Providing trainings to various departments

  • Assisting with incident response planning and management

  • Assisting with various consumer protection, rental car law, and other general operations/litigation needs

  • Delivering business-oriented legal counsel to Hertz’s internal stakeholders in a timely, positive, collaborative and constructive manner

  • Serving as a trusted partner to stakeholders in the organization

The successful applicant must possess:

  • J. D. with strong academic credentials

  • Required to be admitted to the bar and in good standing in Florida, or admitted to the bar and in good standing in another state and eligible for limited licensure as in-house counsel in Florida

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney with a corporate in-house legal department and/or private law firm

  • Excellent interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively explain complex legal issues to non-lawyers

  • Excellent business judgment, problem solving skills, and a strong work ethic required

  • Exceptional customer service skills and a strong team player

  • Ability to operate in fast-paced environment with a very high level of autonomy

  • Ability to read, write, and fluently speak and understand the English language

  • Excellent PC skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have prior experience drafting and negotiating contracts and/or litigating

  • Have prior experience working on matters involving Privacy Shield, GDPR, FTC advertising rules, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CASL, PIPEDA, and other similar regulations and laws
