Presbyterian SeniorCare Network RN Supervisor in Erie, Pennsylvania

S ummary

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and RN Neighborhood Manager, the Supervisor is a Licensed Registered Nurse whose function is to monitor and provide quality care and services to residents for an entire shift. This individual is to assume responsibility for his/her healthcare delivery and to supervise and oversee the work of professional and non-professional employees throughout the facility. The Supervisor has shift responsibility for the provision of care throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Identifies and suggests innovative approaches and participates in implementing performance improvement opportunities. Maintains compliance with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network policy and procedure in accordance with governing laws, regulations, regulatory agencies, accreditation bodies and community standards. Demonstrates on a consistent basis individual and team behavior that supports the Person-Centered, Woodwell and Woodside philosophies of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Consistently upholds the mission, values and behavior standards of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Maintains confidentiality. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. In the absence of the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing acts to ensure quality resident care and to manage the facility, and receives or obtains preceding shift report.

  2. Makes daily rounds to observe and evaluate residents’ physical and emotional status and to ensure continuing quality resident care. Supports Charge Nurses/Team Leaders by assisting with resident transfers, deaths, admissions, care, and falls or other incidents. Assures all occurrences are reported to appropriate persons (physician, family, nursing administration) as per facility policy.

  3. Support, implement and monitor Studer principles from Hardwiring Excellence to enhance accountability.

  4. As directed by the Manager, participates in the Rounding for Outcomes process on a daily basis with residents, families and staff. Results of "Rounding" activity are communicated to the appropriate manager.

  5. As directed by the Manager, monitors coaching plans for select staff.

  6. Provides positive feedback/thank-you notes to staff for a job well done.

  7. Acts as Charge Nurse/Team Leader as needed (including passing medication)

  8. Follows and promotes infection control policies and procedures. Reports occupational exposures to blood, bodily fluid, infectious materials and hazardous chemicals in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  9. Serves to promote excellence in nursing practice through the implementation of Best Practices, quality improvement projects and quality monitoring.

  10. Interviews, hires, orients, evaluates, coaches, counsels and disciplines nursing personnel.

  11. Performs audits for nursing practice and documentation as requested. Ensures appropriate follow-up and documentation.

  12. Evaluates job performances of nursing personnel, administers Human Resources practices by counseling staff when necessary, writing positive and negative Nursing Management Reports, and performing disciplinary actions as required.

  13. In the absence of the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing ensures appropriate staffing mix is present on each shift and collaborates with Staffing Coordinator for call offs, adjusts and/or replaces personnel as needed.

  14. Assists with the education/orientation of all nursing staff by providing technical support and assistance in the interpretation of and, as required, demonstration of stated job description, accountabilities, clinical competencies, staff education, and assessments.

  15. Keeps the Director of Nursing informed of residents’ status, concerns, and other related matters through written reports and/or verbal communication, along with completion and follow up of Incident Reports. Identifies Nursing Service problems and informs the Director of Nursing of problems/possible solutions through written and verbal communication.

  16. Keeps apprised of the developments in nursing practice through continuing education and in-service attendance, and encourages others to attend educational inservices.

  17. Formulates, implements, and ensures compliance with Presbyterian SeniorCare policy and procedure in accordance with governing laws, regulations, regulatory agencies, accreditation bodies, and facility standards.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Entire building personnel on his/her shift in the absence of the RN Neighborhood Manager, Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing

    Education and/or Experience

    Graduate of approved Registered Nurse School of Nursing. Two years supervisory experience or one year long term care experience in a licensed position.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

    Possession of a valid RN license issued by the State of Pennsylvania. Maintain CPR certification per policy
