Job Description

MAIN FUNCTION:

Provides leadership, direction & management of the operations of the Patient Registration services which includes Registrars in the Inpatient, Outpatient, Day Surgery & Emergency Room areas and Authorization and Centralized Scheduling Depts. Keeps abreast of various registration, billing and collection regulations / laws as well as assuring computer systems are current and compliant. Interfaces with clinical & support service Directors/Managers to support the initiatives of the System. Reports to the VP Revenue Cycle

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Access/Centralized Scheduling - Authorization

  1. Is responsible to provide leadership, direction & management of the operations of the Patient Registration services which includes Registrars in the Inpatient, Outpatient, Day Surgery & Emergency Room.

  2. Oversees & maintains Patient Registration computer systems & processes.

  3. Oversees & maintains Patient Eligibility computer system & processes.

  4. Institutes and maintains policies & procedures to maintain compliance with external regulations and internal directives to assure efficient and effective operations.

  5. Develops & maintains process for handling patient’s valuables in Patient Registration.

  6. Assures timely and accurate flow of information from patent registration to all ancillary departments, nursing units and billing department.

  7. Oversees Pre-Admission and Pre-Registration function.

  8. Oversees process of providing price quotes and making financial arrangements for patients.

  9. Oversees the operations of centralized scheduling. Understands the computer system for scheduling and works with the supervisor to maintain the system.

  10. Is responsible for the operations of centralized scheduling, and monitors to assure the dept is meeting the need of the areas utilizing them.

  11. Oversees the prior authorization area.

  12. Monitors authorization denials and works with the supervisor to develop processes to prevent these denials going forward.

    Management

  13. Assists in the recruitment, orientation, training, cross-training, evaluation and discipline of staff.

  14. Is responsible for assuring staff is informed of regulatory, process, and computer system changes which includes ongoing staff education.

  15. Develops & maintains reports to ensure key functions are performed promptly and accurately.

  16. Continuously evaluates department processes to maintain efficiency and effectiveness always being open to and searching for opportunities to provide better service.

  17. Develops & prepares reports, analysis for both internal and external users including interfacing with any internal or external auditors.

  18. Keeps the Controller informed on the status of the operations and associated computer systems through meetings and written reports including but not limited to key metrics.

  19. Oversees the preparation of departmental operating and capital budgets.

  20. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.

  21. EDUCATION:

Associate's degree required, Bachelor’s degree in appropriate and relevant field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Five to 8 years combined experience in Healthcare in areas of Billing, Registration or Credit. Working knowledge of computers especially Microsoft software.

Three years plus in a supervisory position with ability to:

  • identify and resolve problems

  • use independent judgment

  • work without direct supervision

CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:

No CPR required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Light physical effort. Typical office work. Work in comfortable positions.

EXPOSURE CATEGORY:

Category III. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Category I tasks are not a condition of employment
