Air Force Materiel Command Picture Framer/Engraver Helper in Edwards AFB, California

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Arts and Crafts Center on Edwards AFB, CA. This position requires the use of power and manual tools and devices that typically involve continuous physical effort and extended periods of standing, bending and stooping. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Continuous standing, stooping, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Responsibilities The Picture Framer/ Engraver Helper: Assists framer in fulfilling customer orders following work order specifications and strict instruction on what is necessary to complete each order. Incumbent needs to become familiar with what wood or wood substitute/ material to get from existing stock; how to measure and use chopper or miter saw to cut material to desired dimensions; glue/ nail frame corners together; and to use small hand tools (e.g. hammer, drill, nail punch, glass scorer, mat knife, stapler, paper cutter) to assemble the frame and cut mat board to achieve special cutting effects specified to work order. Mounts artwork to mat or backing assembly, secures work with retention staples; completes work with a heat seal to mount the picture to the backing; measures, scores, and breaks protective glass to proper dimensions; measures, cuts and assembles picture hanging devices. Assists engraver in fulfilling custom orders whether it be helping with setting up lettering and designs according to sketches using a computer graphics program or prepping materials such as nameplates, trophies, awards, etc. Incumbent must familiarize themselves with setting up jobs to be laser etched into materials such as metal, wood, leather, etc. and sent into production with little or no supervision. Cleans equipment and work area to ensure a safe work environment for employees and customers. Conducts inventory, ensures pricing is accurate and current, notifies supervisor if discrepancies are found, stocks shelves and displays merchandise in respective areas. Operates cash register or credit card machine for receiving payments from customers, gives exact change and verifies accuracy of charges. Performs routine clerical and administrative duties for the Arts and Crafts Center, prepares daily deposit paperwork and performs other related duties as assigned. Controls Over Work: Receives specific guidance and technical instructions from supervisor in the form of work orders, sketches, and oral instructions. Incumbent follows established safety procedures and practices when using hand and power equipment. Work is spot-checked during production for accuracy and upon completion for compliance with customers instructions. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises and scrapes, splinters, muscle strains and other injuries from using hand tools, power tools or other equipment necessary to complete orders. Qualifying Experience: Must be able to read and follow simple and specific written and/or oral instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps. Must have experience using hand and power tools common to picture framing. Must have the ability to calculate lengths, widths and weights. Basic knowledge in using computer graphics programs required. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be knowledgeable and experienced with all aspects of engraving. Must be responsible, detail oriented, a problem solver with a team mentality and work well under pressure. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
