We're looking for a talented individual for our Assistant Attorney General-Management position working as the Director of the Environmental Protection Unit (EPU). For more information about DOJ, visit our website at https://www.doj.state.wi.us/ Position Summary: This position supervises the work of a Deputy Director, Attorneys, Paralegals, and Legal Associates. The selected candidate will provide a variety of legal services, through counsel and representation, to the Legislature, Governor, state agencies, and district attorneys. The selected candidate will enforce the statutes under the Attorney General’s jurisdiction.

The Environmental Protection Unit enforces state environmental laws by prosecuting violations referred to the Attorney General by environmental regulatory agencies or requested by district attorneys. Most environmental violations are referred by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This unit also defends challenges to state agency environmental decisions.

A minimally qualified candidate will have training, education, and/or work experience related to environmental law, litigation, and/or dispute resolution. A minimally qualified candidate will also have supervisory experience.

The preferred candidate will also have experience implementing strategic/management goals, and extensive professional experience working with natural resources or environmental cases.

Type of Employment: Full Time (40 hrs/week)

Salary: The starting salary is between $23.68 and $54.00 per hour (approx. $49,254 to $112,320 annually), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 71-01. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Special Qualifications: Candidates must possess a law degree from an accredited law school and be eligible to be licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.
