Summary of Duties:
Combined position between Campus Shop and Recycling and Refuse Services. Position will be shared between two organizations, depending on time of year and business need.
Performs a variety of grounds construction tasks including semi-skilled work on roads, walks, and drainage systems/grounds; uses a wide variety of medium and light motorized equipment to maintain, repair, and clean campus-area roads and grounds; loads and unloads materials from trucks; uses small hand and power tools; assists in snow removal; performs road maintenance activities.
Performs collection of solid waste and recyclables on campus using trucks, tractors, and other equipment; operates front and rear-loader trash trucks, skid steer, and dump truck to remove solid waste, recyclables, litter, and bulk trash on campus; loads open top boxes with skid steer; places front-load dumpsters at various campus sites; trains other employees on the operation of rear-loader and front-loader trucks and on safety procedures; assists with assembling front-load trash dumpsters; may serve as team leader or short term back-up supervisor; may place and remove containers for special events; serves as liaison with customers; consults with manager regarding daily trash or recycling route for maximum efficiency; completes route sheets; performs other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 300 hours of training in operation of medium and light equipment; 500 hours of experience in outdoor transportation surface maintenance to include concrete set up and finishing; valid Class A commercial driver’s license upon employment with tanker endorsement within the first 150 days of the probationary period; must pass federally required pre-employment drug test.
Experience using phones, radios, tablets and pagers desired; experience driving refuse collection equipment and collecting refuse desired; knowledge of safety procedures desired.
Target Salary: $18.75 - $28.31 Hourly
