Ambulatory Patient Access Rep - Community Support Program

Responsible for greeting and registering patients, answering telephone calls, scheduling appointments and pulling and filing medical charts when indicated. Demonstrates competence defined (*) in Ambulatory Registration Specialist responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adults

Schedule:

Part Time, 20 hours a week

Monday- Thursday 2:30pm-7:30pm

  • Interviews and registers patients in registration areas that report up through Patient Access.

  • Obtains accurate demographic, insurance, and physician information on registrations

  • Screens customer data to ensure patient is eligible for insurance indicated. Communicates differences to the customer.

  • Screens registrations to ensure insurance pre-certification and physician referral requirements are met. Instructs customer on requirements.

  • Assists in identifying self-pay patients and referring them to financial assistance when applicable. Instructs customer on requirements.

  • Establishes and maintains open communication with the all departments that Patient Access interacts with and clinical staff in those areas.

  • Assists in the shadowing/precepting of new employees.

  • Advises and collects deductibles and co-pays that are due.

  • Explains Children’s Hospital collection and payment procedures, when appropriate.

  • Shows respect for the authority of others, including supervisor, manager, physicians, and nurses.

  • Displays positive attitude and discusses decisions or policies in a positive, problem-solving way.

  • Responsible for accurately scheduling follow-up appointments in the EHR.

  • Answers internal and external phones maintaining patient confidentiality and facilitates transfer to appropriate clinical provider as indicated.

  • Actively manages waiting room to ensure a positive patient experience.

  • Completes all trainings as assigned and maintains competency in relevant hospital process, policies and procedures.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

  • High school graduate. Associates degree preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • One year pre-registration, registration, admitting, or customer service experience.

  • One to two years of experience in billing processes and insurance verification

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work and problem solve with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to understand and retain complex and quickly changing information.

  • Knowledge of the impact of the revenue cycle on hospital operations.

  • Familiar with medical terminology.

  • Able to function as a team member responsible for staffing operational hours.

  • Ability to adapt to change positively in work flow and process.

  • Keyboarding/typing/data entry skills.
