POSITION OBJECTIVE Under general supervision, analyze customer and technical requirements, design and develop high- quality and robust university-wide applications, with a focus on supporting the Office of Research Administration (ORA), their users and stakeholders, including those stationed at clinical affiliate sites. Ensure application standards, policies and procedures, as well as the alignment with department and university priorities and mission, is upheld. This is a hands-on application development role responsible for design, and implementation of the products on the Click Portal/Huron application platform. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Analyze, design, write and test university-related application software. Write and test new application functionality from detailed specifications for new and/or existing systems. Write programs to extract, translate, load, and verify data. Translate technical or procedural information into specifications or action plans. Participate in system upgrades and other support activities. Provide technical documentation in accordance with departmental standards. (40%) 2. Serve as a resource to consultants and customers. Collaborate and assist functional users in solving problems and answer system-related questions. Provide Tier 2 and 3 support for Huron Application base. Recommend and implement solutions and process improvements. Test and debug applications in conjunction with business analysts and customers. (30%) 3. Provide hands on support with application of patches, and production deployments, Windows server deployments, installing software, setting up user accounts, applying security certifications, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting alerts. (15%) 4. Work on department and University-wide projects. (10%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, participating in business analysis standards and guidelines and their integration with software development standards and guidelines; evaluating work products and hardware/software interfaces developed by outside contractors for conformance with university requirements; participating in evaluating vendor product packages and their fit with customer requirements. (5%) CONTACTS Department: Regular contact with the supervisor to review goals, accomplishments, and overall team performance. Regular contact with team members to collaborate on projects, provide project specifications, define workflows, work on troubleshooting and ORA ticket resolutions. Frequent contact with other UTech personnel on assigned projects to gather requirements and document processes. University: Frequent contact with department administrators and end users, with the purpose of maintaining ORA systems alignment with user needs. External: Occasional contact with outside consultants, software vendors, peers at other institutions, with the purpose of troubleshooting and evaluating vendor product packages and their fit with customer requirements. Students: Occasional interaction with department student workers and student users of ORA applications to provide user system support. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. QUALIFICATIONS Experience and Education: High school graduate or equivalent and at least 9 years of relevant experience OR Associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and at least 5 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and at least 3 to 5 years of progressive experience. Prefer training or other course work in programming, system analysis, web development and/or graphic design. Familiarity with Huron (Click) Research Suite development preferred.
