University of Virginia Materials Processing Specialist in Charlottesville, Virginia

The University of Virginia Library seeks applications for a Materials Processing Specialist. The Materials Processing Specialist will be responsible for both Serials and Monograph receiving and processing. They check-in and barcode new serial issues according to departmental standards, they also distribute these new issues to the appropriate library. They catalog items identified for internal RAD processing, and identify and correct errors in shipping and invoicing. The material Processing Specialist serves as a point of contact for library colleague with questions or concerns about print materials, acquisitions, and the cataloging process. This position requires flexibility and the ability to work on a wide variety of projects. The exact nature of the job's responsibilities will change as collection’s priorities and demands change.


  • Bachelor's degree OR at least four years of related experience

  • At least two years of work experience in an academic or library setting

  • Experience using SirsiDynix’s Symphony ILS/Workflows, Experience with the Workflows Serial Control module is preferred

  • A demonstrated ability to work with a team as well as independently

  • The ability to follow directions and ensure that work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to regularly lift 25 pound boxes and push 50 pound carts

Anticipated hiring range : $ 40,000 - $45,000
