This extremely critical role oversees 15 bargaining unit employees who manage and repair all of the mechanical equipment across Cedar Rapids. This person who has extensive knowledge of HVAC equipment gives direct guidance to their team on repairs and service. The person in this role also must have a deep understanding of building automation systems (BAS) which controls all of the site's HVAC systems. In addition, they will also need to have a vast knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and creation of all of the site's PMs.

  • Works well with other managers and supervisors and may need to be contacted for support across all shifts including weekends.

  • Manages 2 additional bargaining unit employees who oversee the maintenance and construction inventory and tools.

  • Understands inventory needs by maintaining the proper balance of needed parts and be innovative in understanding cost reduction.

  • Responsible for keeping the overtime tool up to date, the backflow preventer management program, water and wastewater programs, and managing vendors who services some of our equipment and buildings.

  • Manages many moving parts that can change fluidly from day to day.

  • All Collins buildings are managed 24/7/365 this person will be expected to work every 6th weekend and every 6th holiday on a schedule. The person who accepts this position must be able to lead a team of union employees, be actively engaged in their team’s work, be able to manage time effectively, delegate work to others and communicate with their peers and leaders.

  • The types of equipment included in this role are large chillers and cooling towers, large boilers and package boilers, Leibert systems, LN2 and Co2 Systems that cool test chambers and over 400 general heating and cooling systems.

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 10 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Prior CMMS experience

  • Technical knowledge of HVAC and building management systems is a must

  • Leadership experience both with direct reports and managing the expectations of internal customers and cross functional teams.

  • Must be willing to put in additional hours if additional time onsite is needed.

  • Must be willing to work the appropriate shift (6:30 AM to 3:30 PM) but could be needed at different times as projects and breakdowns require.

  • Must be willing to work every 6th weekend and every 6th holiday on a schedule as Collins buildings are managed 24/7/365.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with EH&S

  • Previous experience with RCCA
