Job Description:

Unpaid volunteer that interacts with patients, guests and Intermountain caregivers as noted below. Volunteer must demonstrate competency with skills noted on attached documents.

Position Purpose

Qualifications

  • Six months commitment

  • 4 hour shifts once or more per week

  • Able to work alone and independently

  • Customer Service Skills

  • Able to follow instructions

  • Good Listening Skills

  • Able to work alone and independent (within scope of assigned duties)

  • Sensitive to patient and family situations / dynamics

  • Ability to recognize boundaries and limitations of duties and not act independently of those functions

Commitment

  • One Shift per week for a minimum of six months. Exceptions may be given for vacations and illness

Job Duties

  • Provide comfort items in waiting areas (snacks, water, magazines, etc.)

  • Liaison between staff, patients and guests

  • Answer phones, uses courteous phone etiquette

  • Upon request, direct customers to various areas within the facility, including lockdown areas when appropriate

  • Upon request, transport outpatients or guests, via wheelchair, to hospital areas

  • Trained on relevant equipment and safety protocols (e.g., copy and fax machines)

  • Deliver flowers, mail, gifts and balloons to patient rooms

  • Clean toys and games or items not currently cleaned by housekeeping staff

  • Provide non-clinical instructions for outpatients as directed by staff (e.g., wardrobe and lockers)

  • Upon request of clinical staff, may provide patient discharge services (vial wheelchair)

  • Will immediately call for clinical aid if medical attention is noted / needed

  • Phone answering (unless in waiting room areas)

  • Restocking supply areas

  • Patient packet assembly -Patient food delivery, specialty orders (no food preparation)

Physical Requirements & Skills

  • Escort Ambulatory Out-patients or Guests (see attached skills assessment)

  • In-patient adult gurney transport (assist only)

  • Sit/Stand for long periods of time

  • Wheelchair Safety

  • Clean/wipe-down items not cleaned by housekeeping staff (see attached skills assessment)
