Fixed Equipment Project Engineer
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) has an opening for a Refining Engineer - Fixed Equipment Project Engineer at our Carson Refinery. Fixed Equipment Engineer position is responsible for providing technical day to day support to their assigned Operating Area while developing project management skills. This position will be engaged on technical issues throughout the unit and depending on the complexity will detail design, manage, lead, and implement small projects. The available schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, a fter hours calls are required several times a year and supporting TAR once or twice a year.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and review engineered solutions for equipment with reliability/maintenance issues or to improve unit day to day operation and safety.
Define and implement Projects to improve safety, profitability and reliability. Coordinate project scope development with other departments and outside engineering contractors. Develop decision support packages (DSPs) for assigned projects, develop Construction Work Packages and support construction.
Review new and existing equipment designs with Subject Matter Experts (SME), Operation, Reliability, Inspection, and Maintenance to identify potential problems, root cause issues, or areas for improvement.
Understand and apply engineering codes and specs to ensure project designs meet company and applicable standards (RAGAGEP) including ASME, TEMA, API, ANSI, NBIC and Marathon Specifications.
Provide technical input to the purchase and fabrication of engineered equipment, piping, valves and perform technical reviews of vendor drawings.
Support maintenance with technical reviews and approvals of temporary repair packages per ASME PCC-2 and applicable standards.
Initiate, develop, and execute MOCs for assigned projects. Participate in unit and project HAZOPs.
Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses.
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) (Degree must be accredited in US.)
Must have at least 5 years of post degree experience as an Engineer in the refining, petrochemical or manufacturing industry.
Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications
Equipment detail engineering experience is preferred.
Familiar with refining processes is preferred.
