Aston Carter Cost Accountant in Carol Stream, Illinois


The Plant Accountant/Cost Analyst will have responsibility for performing critical accounting and analytical functions in support of plant operations for the manufacturing facility. An effective Plant Accountant/Cost Analyst is organized, proactive, a strong communicator, and has a great eye for detail. The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience within a manufacturing environment. He or she will play a very important supportive role, responsible to maintain and execute a variety of financial procedures, including but not limited to month-end and year-end closings, maintenance of standard costs, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, labor analysis, inventory accounting/analysis, and fixed asset accounting. This role will provide critical analysis and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to the Operations management team and Controller. And, this role will assist in the interpretation of performance and spending metrics, allowing the business to make informed decisions

Analyze complex operations data to drive efficiency and improvement, providing variance analysis, metrics, interpretations and insights of KPI’s, to support management decisions

  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly critical inventory metrics and observations, supporting the Operations, Planning, and Logistics teams to control inventory levels and minimize E&O

  • Support timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries, accruals, and overall maintenance of operational management accounts

  • Support the implementation of cost standards for materials and labor and maintain these standards in the ERP system

  • Review engineering changes to bills of material and determine financial effect of changes

  • Support the Controller in monitoring new accounting pronouncements and Company Policies (SPI’s), and implement the related accounting, policy and reporting impacts

  • Manage the accounting of Fixed Assets for the Carol Stream facility, including Asset set-up, CIP Tracking, and Capitalization, for both book and tax

  • Maintain detailed reconciliations of Inventory, Fixed Assets, and Plant labor, accruals, driving actions collaboratively with Operations management and the Controller

  • Will play a critical role in organizing and completing the annual physical inventory

  • Will play a critical role in organizing and completing the Fixed Asset inventory every 3 years

  • Assist with preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts.

  • Work directly with auditors in support of specific areas of responsibility

  • Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned

  • Assist in the implementation of Cost Accounting, Fixed Asset, and Inventory processes of new ERP system

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or economics

  • Five+ years of experience with standard costing and operational cost center reporting in an organization with a revenue greater than $100 million

  • Five+ years of experience with Cost of Goods sold, Bill of Materials, Inventory and Cycle Counts

  • Five+ years of experience with Purchase Price Variance

  • Five+ years of of experience with month end close, journal entries and reconciliations

  • Five+ years of experience with creating pivot tables, VLOOKUP's formulas and data manipulations within Microsoft Excel
