Gentex Corporation Vacuum Coating Engineer in CARBONDALE, Pennsylvania

PURPOSE: Responsible for all engineering related aspects of Plasma Assisted Vapor Deposition of optical interferential coatings including process (material science), equipment, and analysis (troubleshooting and Design Assurance). Sets up, operates, and maintains vacuum deposition chamber for engineering to coat optical plastic products with optical materials EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s) and EXPERIENCE: *The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Engineering, Physics, chemistry or related technical discipline; or ten years in engineering/manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience *Five (5) to ten (10) years of engineering experience in vacuum deposition. Prior experience with CAD, Geometric Optics, thin-film interference coatings or related Optical Materials knowledge desired, Statistical Analysis, Research and Development techniques are desired. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: *Proficiency in MS Office Suite *Experience with 3D CAD package (SolidWorks preferred) *Knowledge of statistical techniques, *Knowledge of thin-film interference optics coatings *Knowledge in software/equipment interface and programming DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: *Control and improvement of vacuum deposition process *Process: Inspection of critical coating characteristics, analysis of equipment operation, quality, etc. *Equipment support: Reception, installation, and start of new equipment. Advanced preventative maintenance, technical troubleshooting (including electrical / electronic) *Procedures, working instructions: Development, implementation, training, and auditing *Project Support: Lead new process introduction / qualification, equipment installation, etc. *Problem Solving: Identify complex problems; display a systematic approach to resolution using data-driven analysis / decision making; Follow-through actions through implementation and validation *Ability to develop understanding of complex and evolving processes as required to lead, implement, and sustain systems improvements *Equipment design: Develop design specifications for equipment supporting Vacuum deposition operations *Develops and conducts RandD experiments for product and process improvement, new products and technology. *Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, technical journals and understanding of mathematical concepts such as probabilities, statistics. *Possess effective communication and presentation skills POSITION SUPERVISES: N/A CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Daily contact with engineers, managers, purchasing, manufacturing and warehouse personnel PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS: Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; manual dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise. LOCATION: Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County.
