M&T Bank Senior CCAR Analyst in Buffalo, New York



The Sr. CCAR Analyst provides strategic direction in the development of scenarios and resource estimates in order to produce capital forecasts and regulatory forms required as part of stress testing (i.e., Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR). The Sr. CCAR Analyst directs workflow and may also supervise or mentor other employees involved in these processes and prepares and delivers executive level presentations to senior management with respect to his/her subject matter expertise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed, interpretative financial analyses utilizing complex modeling scenarios. Review and challenge model inputs and outcomes to ensure accuracy of results.

  • Responsible for the development in final form of presentations, scenario narratives, memorandums and regulatory forms that analyze and summarize M&T’s capital projections for senior management, internal risk governance committees and regulators.

  • Use forecasting models and work in collaboration with Analysts/Sr. Analysts and other departments (Credit Risk, Treasury, Finance etc.,) and business lines (i) to provide insightful analysis of risk and resource estimates developed and (ii) to generate forecasts for CCAR submissions and other organizational initiatives.

  • Assist in the completion and submission and review of all required FR Y-14 templates, capital plan submission documents, and M&T’s public disclosures related to stress test results.

  • Develop strong partnerships with business managers to gain an understanding of underlying business drivers and issues that may affect scenario development and capital forecasting; Work in collaboration with businesses (e.g., Credit Risk, Treasury and Finance) to provide insightful review and analysis of risks and resource estimates.

  • Perform analyses to identify and resolve errors and inconsistencies in data reporting and usage from financial reporting systems and across departments.

  • Conduct research and analyses of industry and peer bank data; keep appraised of regulatory developments affecting the bi-annual stress tests requirements and best practices.

  • Responsible for the identification and implementation of improvements to reporting and forecasting capabilities in order to generate meaningful financial data to better serve senior management and facilitate decision-making.

  • May be called upon to provide presentations to department management concerning the business activities of the department.

  • Assist in training and mentoring Analysts and Associate Analysts.

  • May be called upon to provide team leadership and/or work flow management for a designated team of Analysts/Associate Analysts.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The team plays a critical role in conducting the stress tests for M&T. The stress tests were developed by the Federal Reserve to assess the capital adequacy of financial institutions, under different economic stress scenarios. Loss estimates from credit, market, interest rate, operations, reputational and other identified risks are determined based on the Bank's existing portfolio and new originations over the forecast horizon, using a combination of quantitative models and expert judgment. The loss estimates are matched against capital sources and the required capital adequacy measures are evaluated for estimated losses under different economic scenarios.

The Sr. CCAR Analyst works under limited supervision and is required to exercise independent judgment and discretion. This position has substantial contact with the internal departments within the Bank, including middle, senior and executive level management. The Sr. CCAR Analyst may also lead project or business related initiatives and may also provide in a supervisory capacity for Associate Analysts and Analysts.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

May be an individual contributor or supervise up to 2 Analysts/Associate Analysts.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in quantitative/analytical discipline (e.g., Finance, Accounting or Economics) and minimum of five years’ experience including a minimum of two years' experience in the finance industry, OR in lieu of degree, a combined nine years' higher education and/or work experience with a minimum of two years' experience in the finance industry.

Proven experience at an intermediate level with spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software.

Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA or advanced degree preferred.

One year of experience relevant to capital forecasting and/or regulatory capital reporting.

Strong knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance agencies/issues related to the banking industry.

Previous experience with CCAR/DFAST and regulatory reporting templates.

Advanced financial modeling skills.

Supervisory/management experience preferred.
