Medtronic Electrical Engineer - Battery Mgmt. Systems in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota

Position Description:

Electrical Engineer - Battery Mgmt. Systems for Medtronic, Inc. located in Brooklyn Center, MN. Responsible for research, development, design, and test of electrical components, battery mgmt. systems, battery packs, equipment, systems, and networks. Translate user needs, FDA regulations and medical device standards into product requirements and system architecture. Complete risk analysis studies of new electrical design and processes. Responsible for battery mgmt. system (BMS), fuel gauges, and microcontrollers including Texas Instruments, Maxim and Microchip for different communication protocols including SMBus, I2C, UART, Serial Port, and CANBUS. Utilize software packages including LabVIEW, MPLABX, PSpice, JMP, ARBIN, MACCOR, MATLAB, and Altium. Leverage various programming languages including C/C++ and Python. Provide design evaluation and development of test systems and test protocols required for verification and validation (V&V). Perform Circuit analysis, troubleshoot, and debug battery packs. Perform product testing, and failure analysis for medical device battery packs. Navigate the complexity of government and industry regulations applicable to battery packs including FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO13485, medical device standards IEC 60601 and IEC 62133-2, and International Air Transport Association (IATA) Underwriters Laboratory (UL) 2054. Position works a hybrid model and will be onsite in Brooklyn Center, MN– 4 days per week. Relocation assistance not available for this position. #LI-DNI

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering and 1 year of experience as an electrical engineer or related occupation in batteries for medical devices. Must possess a minimum of 1 year of experience with each of the following: Battery mgmt. system, fuel gauges, and microcontrollers including Texas Instruments, Maxim, or Microchip; LabVIEW, MPLABX, PSpice, JMP, ARBIN, MACCOR, Altium, and MATLAB; SMBus, I2C, UART, Serial Port, and CANBUS; C/C++ and Python; Design evaluation and development of test systems and test protocols for V&V; Circuit analysis, product testing, and failure analysis for battery packs; and FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, medical device standards IEC 60601 and IEC 62133-2, and IATA UL 2054.
