Trane Technologies is hiring a Lead Energy Engineer to support our Commercial HVAC Sales & Service offices in our Pacific Southwest Region! This exciting leadership opportunity is REMOTE - and you can live anywhere within the region. Key areas are Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and Phoenix.
The Lead Energy Engineer will support the technical analysis, review, measurement, and verification of financially guaranteed projects, contracting solutions and utility programs.
Key activities will include working with office team members on client and opportunity qualification, preliminary and detailed audit scope analysis, and assisting the team with energy and financial analysis results for equipment performance, performance contracts, complex turnkey and other contracting offerings.
You will also manage small team of fantastic Energy Engineers and coordinate with Senior Project Developers. The primary role of the team will be creating, reviewing, and documentation surrounding energy simulation models utilizing fundamental HVAC principals.
Essential Job Functions
Lead, coach and mentor a team of Energy Engineers, including their evaluation and development plans, as they provide technical analysis/review for energy projects.
Perform building “walk-through” and identify energy conservation measures (architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) in commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.
Customizes software and spreadsheets to achieve desired technical results and presentations.
Determines and prescribes best methods for measurement and verification of system performance during the acquisition phase.
Conducts TRACE 700 / 3D+ and or eQuest models for additions/changes to the facility that affect existing guarantees or for optimizing existing control strategies.
Provides conceptual or preliminary engineering design for projects including but not limited to basis of design and calculations.
Assist with opportunity technical qualification including Preliminary Audits, Benchmarking, Site Surveys, and Interviews
Requirements and Abilities
Manages energy engineering specific workload and project flow
Leads SME / Vertical research per area, specifically utility programs, rebates, and analysis methodology
Leads complex project energy engineering tasks as energy engineering lead
First level review and approval of energy models and calculations, guarantee project documentation, and M&V transition
Have the capability to discuss both technical concepts around HVACR and controls, as well as understand and converse at the business/strategic level.
Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays. (Average 25%)
Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:
DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
Education, Experience and Special Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and three (3) years or more experience.
Knowledge and experience with HVAC, control, electrical systems and proficiency with energy analysis tools.
Working knowledge of cost and savings studies incorporating energy conversation measures.
Nice to Have:
An active Professional Engineering (PE) License in California or equivalent
Certified Energy Manager, Engineer In training and other technical accomplishments
Compensation:
Base Compensation Range is $81,000 to $170,000. Total compensation for this role also will include an incentive plan.
Disclaimer: This base salary range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
