Embedded Electrical Engineer

job summary:

Embedded Electrical Engineer located in Birmingham, AL for a leading manufacturer of document processing, image capture, and scanning devices. This position is responsible for the design, development, modification, and implementation of embedded subsystems. Candidates must have a BS Degree in Engineering (Preferably in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems) with extensive design experience in digital electronics including FPGA hardware design and programming. Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering (Preferably in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems)

  • Extensive design experience in digital electronics including FPGA hardware design and programming

  • Knowledge of FPGA system design, tools, timing analysis, simulation, and VHDL or related programming languages

  • Knowledge of microprocessor systems and related C-language and Assembly language programming.

  • Real-time Operating System experience a plus.

responsibilities:

  • Understanding the required functionality of electronics and embedded subsystems within the scanner and being capable of designing and implementing new functionality and features.

  • New design and maintenance of existing designs of the FPGA subsystems within the scanner

  • New design and maintenance of existing designs of the embedded processor systems with the scanner

  • Able to investigate failures within the electrical and embedded subsystems of the scanner, determine the root cause of the failure, and create a plan for corrective action.

  • Working closely with the cross functional teams to integrate and orchestrate all features/specifications that impact electrical and embedded subsystems of the product.

  • Participating in the general support and maintenance of the electrical and electronic subsystems of the scanner.

  • Document all electronic and embedded subsystem's operational specifications, changes, tolerances, and theory of operations.
